I know what you mean. Cinematic science fiction that could have came from the pen of the likes of Asimov, Clarke, Bova and Robinson is sorely lacking these days. I'm really hoping that Prometheus has the grand themes that made the likes of 'Contact' such a success. Decent, intelligent sci-fi rather than a 'rollercoaster' CG-fest.

As for the Prometheus myth, watch the viral video featuring Peter Weyland as he explains how manking got 'the gift of fire' from the titan Prometheus and how the gods reacted. Scott has said that the name Promtheus will mean more than one thing in the film, including origins to the original myth and perhaps a parallel narrative pertaining to the crew of the ship.

It is! On AVPGALAXY they are spending a lot of time arguing about how many Engineers can be seen in the Orrery with David. I can see 2 definitly. You can see their arms swinging while they walk toward him. The one on the right is iffy, but I vote for 4 simply because there are 4 sarcophagii. So, one of them isn't in the shot yet.

It looks like a child drew it on in crayon and nobody noticed. Is the Only thing I don't like about ALIEN.

It is what it is. You could just as easily say the stargate effects at the end of 2001 should be updated. Movies are a product of the time in which they're made. Best to leave well enough alone.

I'm trying to avoid spoilers and theories, but I did check look at every single photo here, twice.

I have no clue where this movie is going to go, but I can't wait to see it! This will be my first theater movie in over a yr. Nothing interests me enough to go, accept sci-fi, and there sure isn't enough of it.

I'll see it first in DD, and on an IMAX screen in DD, if that is available.
DDD is just too much for me.

Wearing DDD glasses gets in the way between the film and my eyes.

Wearing DDD glasses is like wearing a condom... it gets in the way of the natural beauty of the of the piece of work.

So, I'll wait and read thru the DDD reviews, and decide if I want to go there. The DD movie itself better give me a thrill. If it doesn't perform in DD, then I'm not paying extra to finally get my kicks...The DD had better deliver all on it's own.

This movie happens before the Alien movies. Although watching them is always encouraged

I'd say it's good to watch Alien before this one, or at least straight after watching Prometheus. But definitely won't be a necessity.

Like the dude above, Alien and Aliens are the two worth watching, Alien 3 and Resurrection is simply for completest sake, although I'm in the minority which don't mind the 4th as much as 3

Which means that yes it is connected to alien and is a prequel..

I thought it was from previous trailers. I think this has more to do with Alien than they are letting us know.

Well, I just saw the new trailer.

From what I can tell, it looks like Michael Fastbender is "becoming" the space jockey. So I wonder if that race is dead, and when clues lead a civilization to it, someone gets assimilated to become a jockey to pilot a biological "bomber" that drops alien xenomorphs on the homeworld of the investigating species?

I wonder if this is the same ship the Nostromo finds many years later. Possible, but it wouldn't make sense for WY to send out one scientific expedition and then ignore the place after that. Then again, that is exactly what transpired between Alien and Aliens.

I've avoided all spoilers, but the trailer shows enough that I think I have figured out some of the plot. Scott has always though of the jockey as a pilot for a biological warship.

Regardless, I love how original this looks compared to the other Alien films. When I heard Scott was going to do it, I was hoping he would go in a new direction. I am super-pumped for this movie. I will be there opening night.

I don't really know, but whoever is walking in that assimilated form, they walk with Fastbender's trademark rigid posture.
