Loved the movie. That is all.

As far as the crew, I didn't hate the crew. Now the crew in Aliens, OMG! I was waiting for them to die.

I gave Battleship a 10/10 a few weeks ago and stated in that review that the film was not what anyone would consider a grand masterpiece, but it was a 10/10 in its own way for me. I settled on a score that conveyed my overall enjoyment of the film, but I still maintain that it is no masterpiece. Visually the movie is about as masterful as you can get. Performances are strong enough from the leads, but the peripheral characters are just that, peripheral and barely seen so we get no real connection to them. Overall though, despite its drawbacks, it was a 9/10 fun ride for me. And did I mention the stunning visuals?
You and me both. I can usually get Friday afternoons off and consider it prime time to catch a matinee. I've (somewhat jokingly) said that if I don't lose my lunch, it means I liked the movie. If I want an outstanding story, I'll read War and Peace, David Copperfield, or Les Miserables again. Sitting in 3rd row center at the IMAX (real one) was visually mind blowing because the cinematography was outstanding.

If you are like 3D, Hugo, from the standpoint of cinematography, was absolute dynamite. I have a 3D PJ at home and this movie was done the right way (as was Prometheus).

I give it a 4/5 and overall. One thing that bothered me that I haven't seen mentioned though
[Show spoiler]at the end, Shaw jumps out of the lifeboat and is on the planet/moon with her headgear on but you can see her bare hand wearing Hollloway's ring. Perhaps the suits are sealed at the wrists/arms I guess.

Blu, I was just about to come on here and ask the same thing about the suits.

Also, during the storm rescue I swear I heard David or Charlie yell out Noomi instead of Elizabeth.

[Show spoiler]Why did they get Guy Pearce to play Weyland and not Lance Henrikson? Wasn't Bishop a physical copy of Weyland or do I remember wrong? Or do we assume the Bishop model is a somewhat younger image of him?

All in all, a visually BEAUTIFUL movie. There wasn't a person under 30 in the "crowd" with me. Granted it was a 1pm showing on a Saturday but there were about 60 people total. There were a LOT of 60+ year olds. Good to see. Also, Theron is so gorgeous.

These threads are all the same. Any movie that has any ties to a previous film/franchise that carries a certain prestiege often get hotly debated. I am fine with debate, but the haters/fanboys (the kind of people that post 10's or 1's simply to boost or lower a score) are annoying. There is absolutely nothing productive about being on a thread and saying awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome, or hate it, hate it, hate it, hate it, over and over in an attempt dilude and change public opinion. It's the equivalent of crying out for one's mommie over rand over until her head explodes out of frustration. It's childish, unconstructive, and unnecessary. That was the point I made.

He tried to turn it into a fight.
I said discussion is good. Repeatedly. And I'm not a "hater" of this movie. I gave it a 3/5. Once again, I thought some stuff was great, and didn't like other aspects. I'm not seeing how saying discussion about a movie that has divided audiences was trying to "turn it into a fight." Please feel free to point out anything I said otherwise. Otherwise I will follow Foggy's advice and not respond to your questionable posts.

I had a few families at mine. I don't mean teenage kids either. Well one teenage father and son. Say he was...14. The youngest looked 8-10. good bit of them

I find myself thinking a lot about the theme of the movie and what it would be like to explore a different world. I like that a lot from a movie.

That being said, I wouldn't immediately land on a planet after just getting there. I would orbit a while, make sure the ship was functioning after all that time, scan the surface for structures and landing sites, etc.

Lots of good trailers beforehand as well. Amazing Spiderman, Gangster Squad and one other were stand outs. Then there was The Watch that just looked like stupid fun.

Watched this today in IMAX 3D. I find myself in the position of truly not understanding some of the negative reaction to this film. It was visually stunning, and thought provoking. In fact, I'm sitting here still thinking of all the implications, questions it raises, etc...and it's 5 hours after I exited the cinema.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I guess if you're looking for a mindless, scifi, action film....this really isn't it...it's something else entirely.

Absolutely. Plus who is to say that if they hadn't gone into a different structure, they wouldn't have found balloon animals and jelly beans. They just chose really badly.

This film was an obvious precursor to Alien, specifically Alien 4, because of the presence of
[Show spoiler]a basketball
.

The lengths they went to keep that secret!

That was actually in the original script. They were supposed to encounter Captain Spaulding and get them selves some fried chicken.

Now that the movie is fully release, when do we get to dump the spoilers?

Anyway, I've seen the question asked, but haven't seen a real answer that seems justified.

[Show spoiler]What were the Engineers running from? They know what the dye does and use it, and I didn't notice any sign of a battle or struggle. Did I miss something?

When they find the mound of engineers, most of them have been killed by chestbursters. Since that was 2,000 years ago, it's safe to assume the aliens died out somewhere along the way without hosts.

It wasn't all bad. There was some inspired set design and Fassbender was fantastic.

However, *some* of the acting wasn't great and the script / dialogue was very poor in places. I thought that overall the film was a bit pompous, however it did have some good moments and if you can overlook its many shortcomings then its an ok watch. Its not a patch on Alien though, in fact Alien 3 is better film. Having said that, I think Event Horizon is probably better as a "horror" film.

I don't recall seeing that or hearing it. Is the 2000 yrs, speculation? I don't recall a time line either.
