Agreed. There are those however who go to far into mean spiritedness with their "conversations". That is what I try to stay out of. I will defend my own position if people try to make me feel inferior. Discussion is one thing, it's the snobbish nastiness that some people unleash that gets me riled.

And yes, there are those on here. I let everyone have their opinion without mocking them, or I certainly try very much to. Just don't mock mine. You didn't like Prometheus. I have no problem with that. I wasn't bothered by anything you said. I just get bothered when people say things like... I don't see how you can really enjoy this. Or... You have poor taste for liking this. I've been on the receiving end of things like that. You can like or not like whatever you like, but the real issue is the need for some to express their opinion by mocking others for daring to be different. That's what I want to avoid. When I responded to that guys post it was his perceived snobbishness that set me off. It wasn't that he didn't like the movie, it was how he seemed to be saying that those who do are stupid by implying that we can enjoy just ANY movie. I admit that I can enjoy a good deal of movies out there as long as they provide what they promise, and I like what it is that they are providing.
Tottally missed the point i made then as i loved this movie

I was saying its hard to understand how those who rip movies apart for "scientific inacuracies" can enjoy any movie let alone anything in the sci fi genre as by its very nature generally has to stretch a bit.

[Show spoiler]My guess is that all that time he spent on the journey practicing different languages paid of. He did mention at one point that he had dissected a number of languages and stripped them down to their roots looking for common threads. My guess is that it paid off.

It (language) was engrained in our dna was my understanding, hence his study of all languages, derivations, and their roots.

Oh. OMG! I'm so sorry. My bad, I zoned in on that line. I can get a little defensive. Sorry dude. Even if you hadn't liked it, it would have been okay by me. Please forgive.

Edit- You just gave that guy the same answer I did, just with less words. Hats off to you sir.

Communication

David 8 is fluent in all known languages through a dialectic implant and can infer the linguistic components of entirely new languages if encountered. Communication between humans and David 8 should feel entirely fluid and natural. (David 8 specs)

I was thinking about David's name, if it had any religious meaning or something, and then started thinking about the prior Alien films and the names of the androids and the order they were introduced to audiences in...
Ash - Alien
Bishop - Aliens
Call - Alien: Resurrection
David - Prometheus

So... A, B, C, D. Coincidence? Or should we start speculating in Robert Pattinson playing an android named Edward next time around?

I gave this 3/5.

I'm a Ridley Scott fan but this film just left way too much on the table and was really low on action. I'm not saying it needed to be a 2 hour gore fest but I did expect more than a few horrorish moments. Really, Michael Fassbender as David was more creepy than anything in this picture to be quite honest. I wasn't involved with any of the characters so when they were hurt or killed it just didn't do anything for me. Maybe seeing a second film would make me change my opinion as this one just felt like a big lead up to an epic conclusion that never happens.

Shit, I was worried about that. Makes me wonder what the film actually consists of. I'll still go see it, but I probably won't buy it on blu.

Everyone I saw it with complained that the first hour and a half was slow. By the time it picks up...it ends.

Like I said, it was a big lead up to another movie. It wasn't a bad film, but I could have waited and watched it at home since it didn't contain the story, 3D effects and wow-factor I was hoping for when I paid to see it on the extreme screen.

I agree with you completely about the characters... and, just like you, I really wish there was more of a horror element--- there really wasn't any to be found. Although, I did think it had plenty of action. It wasn't very satisfying action (like you said, it just ends right when it starts to pick up, which I was disappointed by), but I thought there was more action than necessary, where there could have been more development to fix those character issues you mentioned.

Really great film I thought and met most of my expectations. It's one of those films that definitely gets you thinking and discussing its meaning long after you see it. I saw it with my family and we must have had an hour discussion reflecting on everything. How anyone could not see how this film shows the origin of the Alien must have been watching a different film. Explicit it was not, but it's definitely in there, and its more creepy and disturbing than any stupid "Planet of the Alien" could ever hope to be. That last scene before the credits was major goose bump inducing.

3.5/5...It did leave a few questions for me.

I saw it with my wife and some friends and a discussion came up as to
[Show spoiler]who was the crewman that was outside the ship in the crab position (that attacked) when they opened the door? I though it was the crewman (Fifield) whose mask was melted that they found in the cave. Others though it was the doctor's boyfriend.

Was the best film I've seen so far this year and the first one I give a true 5/5 score to. Liked it better than all the Alien films so far except for Aliens. Will be a stunning BD as well.
