Why not just complain about the movie for using the letter "P" in the title because you simply don't like the shape of that letter.

I'm sticking with the Alien films. You know, the ones you actually see some friggin' Aliens in. I wanted answers, not more questions. This looks like it may be another POTC-type series, in which each entry is progressively weaker than the last.
I think that has been a large source of the animosity towards this film - the whole - "Where are the Aliens?!" issue.

Ridley tried to explain and repeated in many interviews - that this was NOT a prequel to Alien. He confirmed that it "takes place in the same universe" - but the story was not about leaving off where Alien begins. No matter how many times he stated this, people just wouldn't accept it for some reason. Like it was a trick or he was winking when he said it. No - he was being truthful.

It's a much different story, and I feel, a more epic story.

If you, like many others have, go into the story looking for Aliens 5 - then yes, you will be completely disappointed.

If you go in to watch an original Sci-Fi movie, you may be pleasantly surprised - or, like many other sci-fi movies that present big ideas and questions but don't offer all the answers, you may feel let down and decide it's not for you.

Dude, you can destroy ANY movie the way that guy just did. I could write a similarly 'vaild' article about Alien, or The Godfather, or even Lawrence of Arabia.

He's just offering unqualified pessimism. I've read other bad reviews that that bring up valid points by deconstructing the movie in a balanced and fair manner, and I respect those folks for stating their opinions intelligently. That dude's just slinging mud because he's a crybaby. Siding with him is like siding with the inflammatory idiots on Fox "News".

Maybe he was so intrigued of getting some robot ass that he just ignored them and went about his business. I have no idea, but it was very strange.
Yeah I have to agree with you there. That part when he was saying that their transmission was coming in and out didn't make any sense, b/c the feed was on screen and there didn't appear to be any issues. He saw what they were going through and did nothing about it. WTF?

I don't know why everyone always cries for originality, but hates it when it's delivered. It's like the human mind cannot handel it or something. I get people not liking open-ended storytelling, and I respect people just outright not liking a movie because it didn't entertain them, but when they whine about a sequel or prequel not being like what came before it just leaves me shaking my head.

Folks, the whole reason 80% of what comes out of Holloywood is crap is because of us. The studios are just "giving the people what they want." I don't expect anyone who didn't like this movie to like it, but am I the only person left on this planet that wants new experiences?

Why would anyone want to see ALIEN again when we already have it? They tried that once already...it was called Alien 3, and for the most part, it sucked.

I wanted Prometheus to be something new from the moment it was announced. I got exactly what I wanted.

I mean it's one thing if you didn't like it because it wasn't what you had hoped for, but to go as far as say it's Ridley Scott's worst movie (yes that was actually written by somebody) or that the script was awful (what exactly was so bad about it?) c'mon guys.

Now after reading the latest info regarding there being 20 minutes or so footage to be added, this has me very excited for the blu release
I agree. Not saying the film is perfect, but the level of scrutiny some people are applying to this film does border on ridiculous. If you were to scrutinize The Godfather as intensely, it too can be viewed as ridiculous. I'm not saying the film is on the same level as The Godfather, merely that no movie and no script is perfect. But I happen to believe that Prometheus gets far more things right than it does wrong.

A valid point as is your point about why what movies are made and how they're made.....if we'll buy 'em, they'll deliver 'em. If we won't, they won't get made. Studios and financiers are not artists, they are businesses and people who want to make money first and a good movie second. If the second can help with the first, so be it. If not, forget about seeing a good movie.

Having watched that clip and just how many questions there are, I'm starting to think that was the whole point O.O

To leave us the viewer with all these questions wanting to be answered just like the scientists had all their questions that they wanted to be answered.

Mind Blown!

These are the two best posts I've read in this whole thread. I couldn't have said it better myself. Once I decided I was going to see this movie I shut out all additional info. I didn't watch trailers, didn't read articles, etc. As a result, I greatly enjoyed the film as an original work that actually gave me some topics to ponder instead of laying every single thing out in front of me.

I wish there were more reviewers of this caliber. My hat is off to both parties.
[Show spoiler] Frelling HYSTERICAL. His hair really WAS a quarter of an inch too short. I missed that the first time myself.

saw the movie the third time(2 languages),still liked it but those questions left unanswered are killing me.
I liked the movie better the first time.
I could focus more on the little thing and the characters on the third viewing but I still think they did a bad job on the writing and it felt they cut at least 45 min out of the movie.
if Ridley will do the second movie with some of the important questions answered I might feel different, but until then, movie still a Swiss cheese-
lots of holes and stinks but tastes so good

Did you notice that Fassbender's hair was a quarter of an inch too short or did that one get by you?

What were the Engineers running from? I took it for granted one of the bio-pods had leaked creating a mutation/bio-creature and they were trying to escape it; so much so that the Engineer at the back got his head severed by the closing door, remember when...

[Show spoiler]
...they reanimated his head, it looked to me like it was infected, causing it to explode!

I wasn't irritated by the "where's the alien", I was annoyed by the trailers very deliberately using the Engineer ship to make Alien fans think "ooh, it's the derelict ship; Prometheus will tell the back story", but it doesn't. That was a big let down. I wasn't expecting an Alien to pop up, but I would have preferred the film to have been set on LV426 and shown us the events that led to the "space jockey in the chair" scene, it didn't have to be the final shot either and while it might have been predictable, it would have been more satisfying than that silly half arsed proto-alien we saw.

And on that; why was it on all fours? The Engineer was bi-pedal and established Alien canon tells us the parasite takes on characteristics of the host; which also begs the question why was Shaw's "chest burster" a squid? what the..?

It does deserve another viewing, but I'll wait for the disc later in the year.
