The head definitely reminded me of Dark City. "Sleep now"

Surprisingly I like Dark City and video games. How is that possible.

Not a new life form. It is a hybrid modified by

[Show spoiler]Shaw's dna. Normal Life cycle is Engineer, facehugger, xenomorph (for lack of a better word), ? (egg? seeding of Engineer DNA using the black goo catalyst on terraformed world and wait for evolution to create Engineers?) We haven't actually seen the part of the life cycle that would have occurred with only Engineers and xenomorphs involved. In other words, a pure untainted lifecycle.

I don't see an egg in the mural.

[Show spoiler]And it's the "Egg" variable that keeps me coming back to this film and the story because it's quite obvious something really bad must happen in order for those Cylinders to become Eggs as found on the Derelict ship on LV-426.

The question of the positioning of the Head in this poster was talked about a while back, but I always thought it looked like Colonel Kurtz from Apocolypse Now.

With that said, and just speculation of course:

The similarities are rather chilling!!!

[Show spoiler]Why would the engineers carry xeno eggs on their bombers just to infect themselves? IMHO, the normal life cycle is:

1. Seed a plant via sacrifice engineer.
2. Raise infantile race hoping some day they will come into their own as a balanced culture.
3. Destroy any races that do not "take" properly either by bombing with black goo or xenomorph eggs.
4. If by xeno, then the cycle is child race to facehugger to xeno.

[Show spoiler]I still don't see how the mural could foretell an event the engineers never saw coming (the deacon). Given the evidence in the film, it seems like the crews at the bomber base were killed by a 'standard xenomorph' outbreak ("this one looks like it exploded from inside").

David infects Halloway, who impregnates Shaw with tainted sper*, who (since she is barren, only consists of Halloway's DNA mixed with the xeno DNA) gives birth to hybrid facehugger that has never existed before, that impregnates an engineer, that gives birth to something that has never existed in that form before (a mutant xeno/human/engineer organism).

But an engineer artist sees all of this in his imagination 2000 years before it ever happens, and decides to sculpt something that looks way more like a standard xenomorph than the deacon? Sorry, I simply cannot see the deacon as anything other than a new life form.

When Weyland, David, Ford, Shaw, and the "Last" Mercenary go to awaken the engineer and all hell breaks loose, where did the remaining crew members go? The only reason I ask is when Janek decides to crash the Prometheus into the alien ship, you would think that IF there were more crew members left he would order them to evacuate via escape pods . I saw it for the second time yesterday and it seems like part of the crew is just forgotten. There was supposed to be a crew of 17.

These are crew members that clearly died:

Milburn, Fifield, holloway, crew member #1 by the hangar door, crew member # 2 by the hangar door, crew member that gets an axe in his back, maybe one other crew member that gets killed in the hangar scene, Weyland, Ford, Mercenary that gets killed by engineer, Janek, Ruvell, Chance, Vickers.

Anybody that I missed?

I loved the movie by the way, this observation has just been bugging me a little

I was wondering if anyone else had any thoughts on this? Duffy helped to explain a lot though with the heavy editing done for the

That wasn't my question. I was wondering how you came to the conclusion that inert containers filled with dangerous goo somehow become organisms. There has been nothing so far that connects the eggs to the black goo vases. Both are stored in the same manner (equal spacing in creepy rooms), but where are you getting the idea that one turns into the other?

This comes from Ridley Scott's commentary from Alien. A ship carrying cargo, a bomber of some sort. There was no information regarding Cylinders until now. If you have a ship full of Eggs, I'm now speaking of The Nostromo Crew finding the Derelict ship on LV-426, then how did this happen?

It's quite obvious that the Egg Lifecycle has not been introduced at this point in time. I'm very curious about that aspect of the species.

For now, I'm also in the mindset where I've omitted James Cameron's involvement in the series, thus eliminating the Queen/Hive life cycle, and going with the "Kill One, Save One" method, which was the case with "Alien".

Really though, the jars can't turn into eggs. That's some George Lucas kinda storytelling that would wreck the sequel for me. No transforming jars and no Space Jesus, please. The eggs are eggs and the jars are jars. Kinda how we have nukes, napalm, and regular bombs.

And now that we're on the subject of weapons, I think O'Bannon is rolling in his grave. He specifically wanted to avoid the "bullets can't stop them!" BS from the 1950/60's.
