Just bad, pseudo-scientific writing. The sooner Hollywood realizes Lindelof isn't a grade A sci-fi writer, the better (see: Lost, Cowboys and Aliens).
I agree that Prometheus has plot holes due to some poor writing. But i enjoyed the movie for what it is.
Removing the mask was done for the sole purpose of showing us the face of actors. Otherwise, people would have complained. "i can't see the goddamn face of the actors most of the time ...". And remember there are always dumb characters in movies to do stupid things and get killed. I am fine with that as long as they serve the purpose of moving the story.

I liked the movie, wasn't as bad as some people posted.
yes, there are few scenes I didn't like
[Show spoiler]the way Theron died, the big ship rolling like a wheel, and after all the references to Alien, they killed the Architect different than we expected

This could have been much better if they kept as a true prequel.

It is amazing how well AvP had aged. What was once throw-away popcorn junk now sounds kinda good:

A scientific expedition to a remote location, funded by an ailing, near-death Mr. Wayland
[Show spoiler](who actually accompanies the scientists on their trip!).

There, they discover a mysterious pyramid, with evidence that Earth was indeed visited by “Ancient Astronauts”, who were worshiped as Gods by the Ancient Humans.

This pyramid has strange lifeforms that are “activated” by the presence of the scientists, who are then
[Show spoiler]killed off one after another by these new lifeforms. Upon his first encounter with an extra-terrestrial, Wayland is killed by the taller, stronger being.

The few remaining explorers realize they must stop the aliens before they get the chance to leave this remote location and kill the entire population of Earth.
[Show spoiler]The lone survivor of it all, is the “sensible” female scientist whom no one listened too when she suggested that they should leave.

There is a big, climactic fight
[Show spoiler]between the superstrong, super intelligent race that visited prehistoric humans and were worshipped as Gods and an alien creature that was born during this adventure. Both end up dead. The picture ends with a new type of xenomorph we haven’t seen before bursting from him, prepping us for the sequel.

Hey WAITAMINUTE ! ! ! ! ! !

Click the first image to enlarge, then hit n to page forward.

My prediction: Prometheus will be nominated for and win the Oscar for Best Visual Effects.

In any case, a lot of us have acknowledged that this film isn't perfect and has some flaws. But there's a lot of elements in it that have won us over in spite of those shortcomings. In my opinion, there's a lot to love in this movie.
because Lost was LITTERED with garbage writing. this guy single handedly wrote lost into the gutter. Poor uninspired writing that never went anywhere. The guy even admitted that he had no idea where he was going in lost.

Quite.

It all seems such a waste - so much talent and effort was put into the design and look of the film and it's let down by a truly lousy script that was chopped up to make it into even more of a mess (and let's not forget the awful score as well).

exactly, when you hire a garbage writer you get a garbage script, which is unfortunately what happened with Prometheus. Don't get me wrong. I REALLY wanted to like Prometheus. I even set my expectations as low as I could just hoping for a decent flick. Unfortunately I went in and was HORRIFIED at the mess of a movie it was (a lot can be attributed to the script, but there was some REALLY bad acting too, hell we were mst3k'ing the movie about halfway in for the rest of the time just to get some enjoyment out of it).

I find it amusing that the people who hate this most are also obsessed with Prometheus, posting over and over and over and over at how much the hate it, how much is wrong with it. Over and over. Largest percentage of their posts being about Prometheus. That probably makes Ridley just as happy as those who express joy over his film.

That happens when people get excited about something and subsequently get really, really let down.

*see Star Wars Episodes 1 - 3 for further examples of this

It's one of my biggest gripes about internet forums. It's not like I don't want to hear from people who had some issues with the film. But if you not only didn't like it, but totally hated it - why on earth would you want to come into a thread about the film and endlessly harp on this fact. It's a review thread, so by all means I understand posting negative thoughts if you have them. But usually there's certain posters who make it there mission to convince everybody who liked the movie that they're absolutely wrong and that the movie is in fact a horrid abomination. Then, they go on saying how they have every right to do so, because it's a public discussion forum. But I can never understand that. Wouldn't you rather be off discussing something that you find worth your time?

Fully agreed. I wonder if these people are still bashing their ex girlfriends from 4 years ago, on a daily basis. Their current girlfriends or wives must love it

just as every lover of the thread constantly gushes on how many times they've seen said film, how many ticket stubs they're saving and why they can't understand why other people don't like the film.

as for doing something else. you do realize this is a forum. basically discussion is the purpose. good and bad. that's why we spend our time on the forum.... to talk and discuss. it seems lately that every fan of the movie wishes every detractor would just away so they can talk about their happy happy joy joy film. Many times the discussion IS the joy of being in a thread.
