10-year anniversary next year. For some reason, a couple of reappraisals were published this year - I expect some more in 2022. Much to the chagrin of the haters, this film won't be forgotten anytime soon.

And my 10 year wedding anniversary was last week. We saw Prometheus in theaters together for my birthday in June of 2012.

Time has flown.

I have kids now. It's weird.

I think I've always preferred the original film to Aliens. While Aliens is highly entertaining, I liked the Xenomorph more as a fixture of a horror tale from far away than as an action movie with horror elements.

Does make me wonder a bit if it all would've been better as one movie. Maybe, maybe not. Hasn't stopped me from watching all of them (and more than once obviously ).

Here's hoping, I'd much rather get a proper release for Alien³ and Aliens on 4K though, as it is the former's upcoming 30th Anniversary.

As a parasitic infection movie, Prometheus is one of my all time favorites! I love how things progress in this film in that aspect. When I watch it, I never expect "Okay, where are the Xenomorphs?!" I'm going to say that is a big reason people might not enjoy the film. I watch it and enjoy seeing Elizabeth Shaw, hoping to find answers and only finding death and tragedy. Effective horror film really.

I have said so many times before simply this films merits are evident in its ability to still generate conversation 10 years on. I have seen such hyperbolic talk from this who dislike it but it's simple, you just don't talk this much about bad movies a decade later. The film is not perfect, but it is better than a lot give it credit for and the criticisms are just tedious at this point.

And I will still maintain that the backburster scene in Covenant sits alongside the best scenes of any Alien movie.

The documentaries on the BD are among the best!
Very glad it that “ The Furious Gods: Making Prometheus" documentary” was part of the digital copy since it was hard to find on disc here. It is not on the UK version of the Scandinavian version.

Well, not really drones but as Hudson says….like ants. Remember Ash’s great speech about the Alien in the first film? No delusions of morality. Unclouded by conscience? It’s a single purpose organism. That’s scary too, IMO. It beats "oh we made some molasses in a lab and out pops an alien". What was the body builders end game anyways? What was their objective? Just make them because they can? That’s never explored at all. Military?

I’d have to disagree hard here. Just watched Alien and Aliens over the last two nights and it’s hard to find a better one two punch. Perfect ending. The series is at its peak here, IMO. Goes way south thereafter.

Correct. The space goo just means the alien is a science project. Is that really interesting to people? I didn’t think so.

Yes, the film was sort of marketed as a prequel to Alien. Perhaps that was the problem. They should have NOT bothered with that final scene where we see an early stage Xenomorph pop out. It ended up being "cool fan service" but actually ends up not mattering at all in the grand scheme of the film or it’s plot. If Ridley wanted to just explore mankind’s origins then he should have just done that. Dump the space jockey and ship scenes so there is NO tie in to the original films. Have it unrelated. Might have worked better.

Why can’t criticisms still be discussed years later? Should it just be a "back patting" session? The praise is just as tedious but that’s fine. Doesn’t hurt anything. Hyperbolic? How so? The criticisms are pretty legit and it isn’t like just a few people bring them up. I don’t dislike it. I just found it disappointing as to what I was expecting and what I had to work with via the first two classic films.

Black goo is completely alien to me. The queen just makes me think of bugs.

It seems like they were always made for a purpose. Pretty convenient that facehuggers fit perfectly on a human head.
