IMDB is basically Wikipedia, any one can put anything on there and he was probably the 5th member of the cast who was announced and got placed, no ones seen the film yet.

I had his age wrong in the post you quoted. Peter Weyland would be around 85 rather than 70 in 2085 when the prometheus movie takes place as Ridley Scott said. Maybe he's the old guy in the wheelchair as seen in the trailer. You would think that, if at all possible, he would want to go on the Prometheus expedition. Or, as Pearce said, he's only in the movie for a minute, and (speculation) he waves bye-bye to the crew from his death bed, or the character he plays in the movie is Peter Weyland's son. The suspense of it all is overwhelming.

Time to check out all the new stuff on the Weyland Industries home page:

https://www.weylandindustries.com/

For example: About Weyland Corp: At Weyland Industries we apply science, technology and our unparalleled global network of resources to the pursuit of Building Better Worlds.

Everyday Weyland biologists, military scientists, chemical engineers, geologists, mechanics, pilots and more work across our solar system to advance human interests and life. As they labor, new planets, natural resources, industries, modes of transportation, and medical advancements emerge and evolve before our eyes.

As the largest company on the planet we have taken it upon ourself to constantly explore, expand, and discover what lies beyond our own heavens.

50 years ago our founder Sir Peter Weyland set out to change the world. Now, the company he created so many years ago works tirelessly with the same unlimited ambition to improve the world he changed.

Worlds have risen and worlds have fallen. That’s why at Weyland Industries we’re in the business of Building Better Worlds.

So, I take it that Charles Bishop Weyland from AVP has been retconned out of existence.

I hope everything from the Anderson abomination was incinerated out of existence. Only problem is, I actually enjoyed Requiem. Wasn't a perfect film as the cinematography was too dark but I loved a lot of the violence in the flick and loved the face hugger stuff in the maternity ward.

It was a film that had a lot of balls and gets more flack than it deserves.

There is rampant speculation in the forums about the morse code? found in the tiny blinking star at 250 degrees in the image of the planet earth in the 'about us' section on the weyland industries web page.

I just decyphered it: Dah Dit, Dah Dah Dah, Dah; Dit Dah Dah Dit, Dit, Dah Dit, Dah Dit, Dah Dit Dah Dah, Dit Dit Dit; Dah Dit Dit Dit, Dah Dah Dah, Dit Dah, Dah.

Thanks. An upgrade for my desktop wallpaper. It's good that everyone will be able to see the trailer and q/a on line. I've already spent my ten bucks and for me it's only a 30 minute drive to Anaheim, so I'll get to see it a couple of hours ahead of you and see how old Ridley looks in the flesh.

Maybe if you are lucky, they will have some set pieces from the movie there.

Like the space jockey from the original premier way back in 79.

Not much chance of that Duffy. The original (26 ft) prop as well as a smaller copy were burned by an arsonist (religious extremest?) at the Egyptian theater in L.A. during a 1979 exhibition. Some casts of the props are in the hands of some California collectors. Also, I don't think they are interested in emphasizing the tie in with the Alien movie per se. But, whatever they have, I'll be happy to see.

I'm beginning to wonder if these are two separate events, or if the presentation at the Anaheim convention center earlier in the afternoon on the 17th continues with the screening at AMC? The two locations are less than 2 miles from each other.

Crazy Orbits Abound In The PROMETHEUS Realm! WHY?

Wow - the new image from viral marketing for Ridley Scott's PROMETHEUS looks absolutely amazing!

What was my first reaction though? What laws of astrophysics are these guys using? Clearly the notion that we are used to involving a solar system's (or even a galaxy's) plane of the ecliptic is nonexistent. Of course our system may not be the norm in the entire universe, but it is far from rare and is indeed common in our neck of the universe. So I prefer a bit of grounding when it comes to science in science fiction - unless this is all part of the story! If an alien race is sufficiently superior to another they may appear as gods, so if they were to create their own systems then perhaps the standard rules don't apply.

My understanding is the orbits of our solar system planets are in a (more or less) flat plane because when the system formed the planets were created out of a disk of dust surrounding the Sun. Because that disk of dust was shaped as a plane, all of the planets formed within that flat zone as well. Again, rings and disks are extremely common in our universe. The conservation of angular momentum amplifies any initial tiny spin of a cloud. With the cloud spinning faster and faster, it collapses into a disk as it seeks a "happy middle ground" between gravitational collapse and the centrifugal force of its rapid spin. The result is our plane of the ecliptic. Furthermore, it's the reason why we have spiral galaxies, and black hole accretion disks.

See? This photo is a somewhat disturbing to me as an amateur astronomer who studies such things not as a profession, but as a passion. Still it is deeply intriguing to know why they did this and in what context this is all in. I'm begging for more! Viral photo? DEFINITELY.

The image is described as the Orrery by one of the writers, Spaihts. I believe Scott has referred to it that way as well. An orrery is a mechanical representation of solar system. But, there is more going on here. The rings are probably not defining orbits. They are circular data bases made up of what appear to be computer icons. Look closely at the ring in the foreground. You can easily see the rectangular icons with symbols on them. This is a navigation/control system of some sort, but not a Orrery in the true sense of the word. That's my take on it.

The same symbols are used on the sarcophagi.http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/v...ttach&id=27320

The IMDb can be apocryphal at the best of times, i have seen Movie listings with the same actor listed twice under variations of name. I wouldn't read anything into Pearce's importance based on his placing.

Rildey Scott is premiering a new trailer for Prometheus on March the 17th. It will be the first full theatrical trailer, and i am hoping that the final rating for the film will be released very shortly afterward. To be honest, i can't recall my anticipation at a prospective film since i heard about Fellowship Of The Ring. Scott, back again in the Alien universe after 30 years! (And i know that the Xenomorph won't be seen in the film, it's the idea of giving is major backstory on the Weyland Corp etc and Space Jockey that has me salivating!)

[Show spoiler](but I'll be shocked if they don't; they usually get the big features)
