It makes me laugh out loud thinking about sound bars even being in consideration. What a xxxxing joke. It is sounding more like that thx certification BS in the DVD era, when they'd slap the label on any garbage that would pay them...

That said, I'm keen on any imax ratio films...

At least THX actually have measurable guidelines. With IMAX everything seems to be very wishy-washy. They don’t even half screen size versus viewing distance recommended ratio, and everything seems to go back to subjective Type of certification. The clearest example is how can Sony be IMAX and Hanst certified when they don’t even have HDR 10+, also they mentioned that for those Sony master series when they have IMAX enhanced flag the TV will change that precept to cinema home. The reason being is not that cinema home is perfect for IE, But because it’s the closest to IMAX standard. So why only closest to Eyemax standard but not actual IMAX preset?

Possibly - but it beaks the heck out of me how something as bad as the non-anamorphic DVD of Thinner got certified.

Soundbars though. A serious WTF.

The specific DVD you speak of (and others like it, from Republic/Artisan and Fox) were minted from THX-certified LD masters and simply ported to DVD with THX's approval, so they are the ones to blame, for not putting their foot down when the companies asked them to certify the media. It wasn't until several years later, after the brand took a hit from criticism as DVD and home theatre was taking off, that THX had a "the head, the tail, the whole damn thing" certification process covering the entire process of disc production, that was in line with what the brand and certification was supposed to represent. They also introduced extensive equipment and mixing certifications for home media at that time. It's more or less when the brand and it's recognition peaked.

They have a screen size minimum of 65” and above and HdR10+ isn’t a requirement to be IMAX Enhanced certified. They’re still being very vague about what goes into certification but I’d wait to see more before writing them off. Their repeated message of aiming for high end electronics over Dolby’s scaling their tech to a TVs limitations would at least indicate that they’re aiming high.

I call bull hockey on this. IMAX and the studios that will produce IMAX discs know that since it is required to have an HDR10 base layer, it will play on any HDR Display, regardless of screen size. Maybe the consumer will go for the more DNR picture, but the selling point is “Fill my screen, I paid for all 45 inches”.They finally got rid of them worthless Letter Box bars”.

I love me some Letter Box bars, but yes, I’ll be buying some selected IMAX Enhance discs, for those very reasons.

Oh no doubt, I’m just referring to the requirement for certification. Of course, any size will still benefit from those extra few inches lol. I currently only have a 55” so yeah, not going to have that screen size req. but I’ll be getting titles to make the most of my measly display!

It’s not going to be cropped for 16:9 screens. It will still be multi AR as usual.

Me too, I much prefer DTS:X to Dolby Atmos, I have a Pioneer SC LX-76 9.1 receiver set up to 5.1 (I prefer to have the three front channels bi-amped) and DTS:X mixes down to 5.1 much much better than Dolby Atmos. Blade Runner Dolby Atmos tracked down mixed to 5.1 sounds ugly.
About Dolby Vision, we may see its REAL benefits in the future but right now its so called improvements are subtle.

It would be amazing if they give an IMAX Enhanced 4K UHD release of "Batman vs Superman", "Blade Runner 2049", "Avengers: Infinity War", "Guardians of the Galaxy", etc.

BvS already has its Imax scenes as does Bladerunner, so would those really benefit?

I’m pretty sure neither of them do. Blade Runner was expanded ratio the whole movie and it’s scope.

Just checked my disc and youre right.. Now I remember telling people on the forums that it was "easy" to tell which BvS scenes were Imax because they become crystal clear and lose the grain.

Oh, if only BvS had them on the 4K! There are only four IMAX scenes in BvS anyway, for reference: opening titles with the Waynes, the Knightmare, the actual B v S fight and Clark's funeral montage.

IMAX enhanced was created to give us 2049 in the expanded ratio and to have the baby handled by DTS

I didn't know Blade Runner 2049 had some scenes shot on IMAX. The aspect ratio is the same along the movie but I haven't noticed any picture quality improvement on some scenes from the use of IMAX. Which are the IMAX scenes on Blade Runner 2049?

Oh, those scenes look SO good >_<. At least there’s the possibility of getting those eventually, unlike Last Jedi...why film with an IMAX camera and not use that aspect ratio?!

Thats because they used good cameras for the entire movie so the gap in PQ is minimal compared to some other movies.
