Sony actually owns the rights to Spider-Man, so they'll be the ones who release the Blu-ray.

However, Sony did a deal to bring their movies to Disney+ starting next year... so it's possible this could end up being a Disney+ exclusive like the other Marvel movies.

Their movies are going to Netflix starting next year through to 2026, the D+ deal starts after that. If Spider-Man Far From Home and No Way Home even get "IMAX Enhanced" versions on D+, it's not happening until 2027 at the latest, even then knowing Sony those versions aren't a guarantee.

I hate this. Just release the whole damn thing in 1.85 or 1.9 if that's what you want. Instead we get these bastardized, indecisive editions where neither 2.35 nor 1.9 really fit.

With me, I don’t care what aspect right they want to show a movie in, but choose one and stick with it for the duration of the movie. Don’t change up and down within a movie.

That is NOT the deal:

Quote:
Sony Pictures’ upcoming theatrical slate and much of its library are headed to Disney’s streaming and TV platforms.

The new deal, which covers Sony’s 2022-26 theatrical slate, will bring the films to Disney-owned streaming services Disney+ and Hulu, as well as to Disney’s linear TV networks, including ABC, Disney Channels, Freeform, FX and National Geographic.

The deal comes weeks after Netflix and Sony inked a massive pact for Sony’s films to go to the streaming service for their first-pay windows, which usually come 18 months after a film hits theaters. Once that window expires, the new Disney deal will see Sony’s titles hit Disney platforms for their Pay 2 windows.

Oh I forgot about the Netflix deal. The Disney+ deal is also 2022 - 2026. Netflix gets the movies first, then they go to Disney+ (but still during that 4 year window): https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/mo...films-4170479/

I swear I've read that deal information right every time I've read it. Guess not.

I actually feel the opposite! I don't mind aspect ratio changes, as the framing can be decided shot-by-shot. I don't like these expanded editions though, since some shots are clearly framed to feel "complete" in 1.9 but it comes at the cost of basically every single close-up - since they're no longer close-ups.

IMAX is even referring to it as their "exclusive Expanded Aspect Ratio":

I checked out Infinity War and Endgame on D+ IMAX Enhanced with DV and yeah, looks really great...for a stream. Still a little soft, but fook me I love that aspect ratio for 99% of the shots. Sincerely hope they put these one disc. If nothing else, I'd buy these two in a heartbeat.

But after sampling these on D+, I put in my 4K disc of Infinity War and holy shit does that blow away the stream. The HDR and highlights are so much stronger and the detail and sharpness is so much more defined. The IMAX version on disc would be stunning.

I didn't know that IE included metadata. So I guess we have to upgrade our equippment yet again.

It's amazing. I've read where people are claiming that what Disney is offering isn't true IMAX Enhanced because they are using Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos and not DTS-X audio and that's a disappointment. I thought Dolby Vision and Atmos was supposed to the latest and greatest video and audio enhancements.

It doesn’t matter what the “best” are. IE requires iE version of DTSX and HDR10+. Those are known parameters including IE DMR and Original Aspect Ratio. It’s know for the past 2 years or so by anybody who cares about the AV industry as there was an open invitation to the IE “press conference” two years ago at CEDIA (it was done online only) Yet Disney is doing something completely different and call it IE. That’s why Disney’s IE is a scam; a marketing ploy for the uninitiated.

I do not believe IE titles have to have HDR10+ as a rule. They just used to not have Dolby Vision, but it looks like Dolby might have made a recent deal with IMAX to allow DV and Atmos on at least their streams.

It really doesn't matter which immersive format 12-channel IMAX soundtracks reside on as DTS: X is fixed with no objects anyway and Dolby Atmos has a channel only mode too (fixed, snapped objects can be used as channels), which far too many Atmos mixes utilize.

DTSX and HDR10+ are specs for Imax Enhanced UHD BDs. No specs have ever been released for streaming.

You are forgetting that Disney can't use the IMAX name or logo without the express permission of IMAX Corporation. So if it's a scam as you are accusing, it would be done with IMAX's knowledge and approval.

So what's your agenda? Why are you so dead against the Disney IE titles?

Two years ago I pretty much dismissed IMAX Enhanced based upon what was being said about it on this forum. That it's was a gimmick.
