Watched the opening scene of Infinity War which I had always been curious about, and it really does look like it was framed for the taller ratio. (don't know about the rest of the movie but the opening at least)

I've said the same thing for a while https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...9#post15013239, on the Asgardian ship the 'scope just doesn't look right. And yet after that it seems to go back to widescreen 'safe' rather than composing it for the taller ratio.

I'll tell you one thing... it all looks like a bunch of goddamn video game cut scenes and not a movie.

That and the end fight, plus when I saw it in actual IMAX I liked Tony and Nebula's ship looking so tiny on that massive screen.
It looked more remote and hopeless.

Few TVs have DTS audio and no stand alone streaming devices do that I’m aware of so I doubt it ever gets added by Disney

it will be an alternative sound track I would bet, plus most of the streaming boxes can output DTS when hacked, so it may just be a software update to allow passthrough

Can you show where such a scene was done practically and looked more realistic?

I’m pretty sure this video will be utterly useless for most of us but just in case you don’t know how get IMAX Enhanced on your Disney+, here’s a super short video.

Am I the only one hoping for a so-called "IMAX enhanced" version of Titanic whenever that comes to UHD? That would be awesome.

Titanic’s IMAX image was a combination of open-matte and pan-and-scan. There was a video short about that when the VHS was released.

Yep. Here's a great example from Endgame that I found on reddit. The IMAX version reveals Captain America and Thor were in this scene:

That's kinda the point though. The locked embiggening works fine when there's a wide vista or a hectic action scene because there's lots to take in or the camera's moving so much there's little time to reflect on silly things like headroom, or indeed it makes things look more distant and remote in a way that serves the story. BUT in all the talky bits the dead air is just wasted, everyone looks so petty and tiny. On a giant screen where you can count their nostril hairs you kinda do your own 'pan and scan' of the imagery anyway but on a regular-sized display at home it undercuts the emotion of the talky bits because all the extra room makes it feel far less intimate to me.

The letterboxing focuses the viewer on the important stuff, it's a shame they didn't do a VAR version of these Avengers flicks as there would've been some great spots to change the AR, like when Hulk does the snap to bring everyone back in Endgame. Hank goes to the window to check the birds singing and then BOOM, as the missile hits they could've done an instant transition from letterbox to 1.90. Maybe someone could do a home brew version someday?

Ironically enough, I don't mind the 1.78 version of Titanic at all! The talky bits don't have sprawling acres of extra headroom as Cameron likes framing his S35 for a common top and most of the VFX shots have some vertical expansion but are also cropped a wee bit at the sides to keep the imposing scale of the ship (Cameron felt that the ship looked too much like a miniature with all the extra height).

Yeah not really needed since all the "IMAX Enhanced" versions play by default. You only need to go to the "Versions" tab if you want to play the cropped widescreen version.

Titanic open matte shows a lot more of Kate Winslet. A lot more.

I mentioned this day before yesterday in the Endgame thread. You can see Cap and Thor's faces on 1.90:1 which is cut off on regular AR.

I know few hardcore folks don't like streaming and expanded aspect ratio but there is no need to find reasons to bad mouth or be jealous about it that it's D+ exclusive. I am sure when it's released in physical, you guys will rave about it.

I was like this few years ago but a lot has changed in the streaming landscape since introduction of 4K and HDR combined with reasonably higher bit rates. Sometimes we have to adapt and embrace change and competition.
