You are forgetting that Disney can't use the IMAX name or logo without the express permission of IMAX Corporation. So if it's a scam as you are accusing, it would be done with IMAX's knowledge and approval.

So what's your agenda? Why are you so dead against the Disney IE titles?
Well, I'm starting to see why it makes sense to just dismiss IMAX Enhanced.

HDR 10+ on disc, really, which TV's will display HDR10+? Which UHD disc players will play disc with HDR10+?

Do you really believe any streaming companies will stream content in HDR10 plus, I heard Amazon, but really.

IMAX Sound is a channel-based system, I thought Dolby Atmos object audio was supposed to be the next best thing.

A lot of IMAX 12-channel mixes are down converts of Dolby Atmos master theatrical tracks. Obviously, IMAX museum films are native 12-channel for those that use their expanded audio systems.

They also still seem to be 7.1.4 DTS: X tracks. The added Center Height "channel" touted is matrix derived.

Add to that the potential of changing certain movies' aspect ratios to "fill your screen with more picture."

So far... I would have to say... no thanks!
Maybe this was the post that made me ignore IMAX Enhanced two years ago. IMAX Enhanced is probably a bunch of hooey.

Which TV ? I wouldn't know but my projector does HDR10+

Which disc player ? I wouldn't know but my Panasonic UHD BD player does HDR10+

What streaming companies do - Who cares? Buy the disc when you want the best quality.

IMAX attempts to be something like THX has made the brand as useless as THX. Give them some money and you can use the badge, if they have to they will make a "home" or "mobile" level just to qualify crap gear.

I am generally that way too. I want to support how something was filmed and not just a fake blow up situation.

That said Justice League looked pretty amazing to me.

For all intent purposes, and unfortunately so, discs are on the way out. Discs are no longer mainstream, streaming is the present and the future. IMAX Enhanced is for people such as yourself, people that represent the niche of the ultra-niche.

HDR10+ is all but dead, it's not mainstream and will never be so. BTW, so many has argued that Dolby Vision is superior, now, because IMAX Enhanced, has that changed?

Sony TVs are IMAX Enhanced however Sony TVs don't support HDR10+, consumer confusion in a nutshell.

Ha ha ....

Good One.

Enjoy your mainstream.

I"m loving the UHD BD new releases. I think I bought 20 on Black Friday mostly $10 each.

Favorite niche ever. I'll take it.

Mainstream or not, I don’t care. Laserdisc was never mainstream and I started my hobby with that (and a 19” CRT Tv). If anything, there are more titles available on 4K disc than laserdisc ever.

You can enjoy your mediocre mainstream. I want the best I can afford for my home theatre. Mainstream or niche makes absolutely zero difference to me.

They don’t need to water it down. One of IE requirements for a display to be IE Certified is… 65” or larger. Quality be damned, I suppose.

The format's success or failure won't be predicated upon your personal preferences, likes, or dislikes. As for Laserdisc, I had one too, however, when a powerhouse mainstream product like DVD hit the market I dropped that LaserDisc like a hot potato.

It's good for you, you already have the equipment. However, at this point, it wouldn't be wise to upgrade equipment for IMAX Enhanced. For example, HDR10+ is not a step forward over Dolby Vision, technically, it's inferior.

DTS-X is technically inferior to Dolby Atmos. Home DTS-X is basically channel-based and not really object-based audio, even though DTS claims that it is.

I've watched movies in Imax and Dolby Cinema at the commercial theatres and Dolby Cinemas represent a better experience.

So there are 30,000 titles available on 4K Disc? Cause that's how may titles were released on LD before it's demise.

So was I. Right before LD died, there were 30,000 titles available. What is that - 30X as many 4K UHD-BD titles available now?

Quantity wise, yeah. But I find UHD discs for purchase a LOT easier for me now than LaserDiscs at that time.

To be fair, I think if we had modern internet retailers while LaserDisc was in its prime, I think it'd have been just as easy to get your hands on one. UHD is in an entirely different home video market compared to LaserDisc, for the better in this aspect at least.
