At least due to this branding, lIeMAX has trickled into streaming (D+ and Bravia Core) offering us expanded aspect ratio version of select movies.

Personally I prefer the Bravia Core stream of Spiderman FFH and NWH and some of the Dolby Vision + IMAX enhanced version on D+ over the disc as they offers more immersion. If there is a physical release of these IMAX enhanced version then I will be all over it. We never know what's going on behind the curtains and I wouldn't rule out the possibility of this happening given what we have been through in our disc collection journey.

Whether you like it or not is a different discussion.

What was the main reason IMAX Enhanced on disc never had different aspect ratios?

You have to ask the Studios. Sony did make some announcement about IMAX Enhanced on discs but so far we have seen just 2 or 3 discs from them.

Making things worse, the DTS-X on Jumanji Next Level sounded inferior to the Atmos on iTunes to my ears !

As of now, Sony are doing IE on Bravia Core. The audio is IMAX DTS lossy. You will see IMAX DTS displayed on supporting AVRs.

Disney are doing IE on D+ but with Dolby Vision / Atmos. I would be surprised i they offer DTS support as most streaming platforms / devices don't support DTS.

Because the movies they chose to be IMAX Enhanced for disc didn’t have an embiggened IMAX presentation in the first place eg Jumanji 3, bad boys 3, Charlie’s angels, a beautiful day in the neighbourhood (kudos to whichever bright spark decided that a Mr Rogers movie shot to emulate 16mm and used vintage TV cameras would be an ideal candidate for the IE “experience” ).

There's something I still don't understand/know about these IMAX Enhanced movies: are these movies shot natively on IMAX and released on disc/streaming as such, or are they movies shot on 35 mm/2K/4K and reformatted to an IMAX-like aspect ratio?
If they are reformatting (aka: cutting/zooming) regular material to an IMAX-like format ratio just to fill a 16:9 screen, with all due respect, this seems something silly to me.

In the case of Digital IMAX, they were recorded on a standard digital camera (but with IMAX sticker, so to speak) with the native 17:9 aspect ratio. There is nothing special a out these cameras.

Hey, without that movie you've removed a full ten percent of all IMAX Enhanced titles on disc!

Imax Enhanced is a con. It's not actually a real thing is it?

Take a 16:9 TV, bastardise it with black bars. Remove black bars and pretend it's enhanced. Huh?

Just shoot the movie 1.85:1 and release it 1.85:1. Call it normal.

Con or not, I see it as an icing on the cake. You do get that extra immersion especially with larger screens.

I bet most of us who say it is a con will silently purchase a physical copy if Disney ever decides to do that.

To some it's immersion, not the worst thing to have on a giant screen, to others it's dead space, especially in the narrower confines of home viewing. Admittedly I would rebuy IW and Endgame in their IMAX versions (though it's less successful in the latter film) but the rest? Hmmmm. The ones that switch ratio are usually inoffensive enough, I mean for the sake of completeness I've already got all of the VAR 3D versions up to and including Captain Marvel, only stopping because I'm not paying £70 for a 3D disc from Japan, but Eternals is an unholy mess in IMAX. And Dr Strange 2 should not be constantly embiggened, the dialogue scenes are so blatantly composed for 2.39 that I found it distracting, though the action scenes are fine in 1.90.

It's alright to fantasied but it's not a reality because, a real IMAX presentation cannot be replicated at home, unless you have a 53ft x 72ft screen and an IMAX projector inside of your home, which 100% of consumers don't. If someone is a multi-millionaire or billionaire, they can have an IMAX theater custom build on the estate, then you will have a real IMAX presentation.

Personally I would buy the whole lot except IM1.

I do have these most of these on 3D up to Black Widow but stopped collecting 3D as it was getting too expensive.

If I had the money, I might make a bid for the IMAX cinema nearby

There is no extra immersion. It’s simply psychosomatic. Unless you use a 17:9 150” screen viewed from 13’ away, you don’t get “immersion”, especially if you’re watching it in a TV

Thanks for your elitist comment. it is all about perspectives and perception.

For now I am okay with the 77 and 65 inch TVs.

Elitist? It’s a simple mathematical fact. I’m simply not delusional.

But you said the above...

Once again, I am not trying to attack you or question your knowledge going by your credentials, but don't like some of the batcave big rig crowd disrespecting those with smaller gears. Not everyone is equal and not everyone can afford a mancave.

In fact the TV crowd are the ones finding more flaws with picture quality over the PJ crowd going by the 4K forums.
