I placed a couple of orders two weeks ago today (one from Amazon and one from a 3rd party seller on Amazon with a reputable rating). I received the Amazon order last Friday, but the laminate on the lens filter I bought was defective, so I returned it. Today, I received my replacement, but still no sign of the other package. The tracking has been stuck on pre-shipment since two days after I ordered it, and the seller insists it was sent. This is the second time I've had a delayed package from a 3rd-party vendor in the last few months. I just want to watch Tarkovsky's 'The Sacrifice', damnit!
Don't hesitate to contact Amazon Customer Service if you need them to get involved. They will bend over backwards to make it right.

Ride the Pink Horse Blu-ray REVIEW

Aspiring writers should be required to study this film. Phenomenal writing, but this is hardly surprising considering the fact that the great Ben Hecht did the script with Charles Lederer.

Excellent release

LOL you wouldn't be saying that if you were waiting on a film you've been looking forward to seeing!

'Solaris' did require a long attention span for me to get through, though

Not to mention that it's based on a novel by Dorothy B. Hughes, a terrific crime novelist who's virtually unknown outside the field. She also wrote the source novel for the Bogart film In a Lonely Place, among others.

I mostly order brand new factory-sealed stuff from third-party Amazon dealers. MovieMars is great for anything and everything music/movie related, and Zoverstocks is good for ordering import music.
I've always shopped on Amazon according to cheapest price, and have never had a problem with 3rd party sellers' shipping until recently. I also noticed that both of my most recent 3rd party purchases were shipped via USPS 1st class, so it's probably the Postal Service, and not the sellers.

I can only imagine, considering how fast I received my replacement order! I'll give it until Friday, and then see if I need to contact them.

She's actually from my neck of the woods! There was a noir film festival at the Alamo Drafthouse in Kansas City last November, and they showed 'In a Lonely Place'. It was pretty awesome to watch in a theater. I still need to see 'Ride the Pink Horse', though.

I've always liked Robert Montgomery and wish for more of his films to be available such as They Were Expendable , Here Comes Mr. Jordan, and Night Must Fall. (I'm still wondering how this one got a Louie B. Mayer ok . Pretty grisly stuff for MGM)

On another topic-I'm not going to have as much to spend when the flash sale happens. Twilight Time messed with my plans and is releasing First Men in the Moon and a remastered Journey to the Center of the Earth. When it rains.........

Ha! One exception is Ivan's Childhood, which was fast-paced and action-packed, dunno what happened after that.

I know. The whole Twilight Time thing threw me for a curve also. My plan is to place a Twilight Time order for over $100 and pay using PayPal credit so that I'll have six months interest-free financing. Who knew that my blu-ray habit eventually would prepare me for a career in creative accounting?

Many consider Charade to be quite Hitchcockian, so I'd suggest The 39 Steps. I hadn't seen it before blind buying it and considered it pretty great.

I just finished watching The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford for the first time. Wow, this was one fantastic film impeccably shot by Roger Deakins and scored by Nick Cave/Warren Ellis. The acting was tremendous and the story is as true to historical facts as any movie I've seen on Jesse James and Bob Ford. This film would be a great fit in the Criterion Collection especially seeing that the existing 2008 blu-ray had a subpar video/audio transfer.

I'd second this.

For me Don't Look Now plays like a subversion of the Hitchcock movie, with its "exotic" locale and reliance upon suspense. If you can handle something like The Man Who Knew Too Much then I think you'll have a blast with this (it's the good kind of scary, it's not unnecessarily gruesome or overt).

No need for spoilers because I didn't give anything away here.
I'm surprised to hear you say this about the ending of the film, not least because the manner in which the ending is executed (via that fantastic montage) ought to distract from any perceived contrivances within the plot, especially on a first viewing. That being said, this is a film that for me only clicked after 3 or 4 viewings.

I've actually got my own theory about the ending -
[Show spoiler]I think he kills himself. The dwarf isn't real and the story about the serial killer that's in the background is a "red" herring.

This release has slowly crept up in to "must-buy" territory for me in the last few weeks. The film itself is a masterpiece, but I own the excellent UK disc already so figured I'd skip it. As time has gone on though, and more and more extras have been added it's proving a difficult one to ignore!

I'm having the same thoughts. I was hoping that I could dodge the upcoming Criterion release of Le Silence De La Mer, since I own the outstanding MoC Blu-ray, but the new extras and the promise of an improved transfer/improved translation are difficult to ignore.
