Haha I looked up a scene of his, and hearing the guy who said "You shot me in the ass!!!" in 'Training Day' speak Elizabethan English is a shock, to say the least.

Some Hictchcock films are better than others, but I honestly cannot think of any one film of his that I do not like. Hitchcock's work is always a win with me.

Cuaron's films are good, but, for me, they're all missing that one little thing that would make them great. There's just something about his films that is a little too overwrought for my tastes.

Personally, I would be apprehensive about using Windex. One of the studios (I forget which one) advised that an extremely dirty disc be gently cleaned with a solution of non-abrasive, mild dish liquid and warm water, and then either patted dry or left to air dry. If the problem is a little smudge or a finger print, then the disc should be wiped with a soft micro-fibre cloth (the kind you'd use to clean your eyeglasses), and you should start in the center of the disc and wipe directly toward the outer edge.

Definitely avoid any cleaner containing ammonia, as it can sometimes leave a filmy residue behind. (Guess who was once a National Accounts Manager for a major manufacturer of household and industrial cleaning products?)

I'd be more concerned about the Windex causing bodily harm with its neurotoxins entering the blood stream (through the skin's pores) than worrying about the blu-ray disc. Obviously, I'd for sure never use Windex or any toxic cleaners personally, because its not worth it for my health. I'm with jmclick here on just going with a mild soap and warm water.

They make household gloves for that, if anyone is truly afraid of Windex.

Me, I am more concerned about neurotic toxins entering my mind from reading the last five pages of posts.

Thanks for the info, jm! I just wanted to make sure the guy wasn't damaging the scratch coating or anything by doing this, because I occasionally buy movies from there.

The rest of the toxins in my body would just laugh and stuff the Windex toxins in a locker after taking their lunch money.

I accidentally smeared peanut butter on a CD once, and the CD was skippy after that.

...

My Blu-rays of Ride the Pink Horse and The Soft Skin have shipped. I'm looking forward to the combination of a film noir and a Hitchcock-inspired Truffaut.

I'm expecting the Criterion Blu-rays to arrive tomorrow, but it might be a short while before I dive into them, since my three-pack Blu-ray set of The Delta Force, Lone Wolf McQuade, and Code of Silence arrived in my mailbox today.
Chuck Norris turned 75 this month...or I guess that I should say that 75 turned Chuck Norris this month. This particular news story reminded me that I had been meaning to check to see if Lone Wolf McQuade (one of my favorite flicks from childhood) was on Blu-ray yet, and I discovered that, not only is it out in the format, but that I could grab this three-pack with the other two almost-equally-good flicks for less than the stand-alone disc.
Anyway, I'm afraid that, if I try to watch the Criterion discs before watching the Chuck Norris movies, then I might receive a fatal roundhouse kick from the man himself.

I also want to jump into my Twilight Time Blu-rays of Journey to the Center of the Earth and First Men in the Moon.

Next time, smooth the peanut butter on slowly, and don't try to get it done in such a jif(fy) ... that's how such accidents happen.

Say goodnight, Gracie.

I have been absent from the thread for a long bit (a new baby will do that) so I have missed the Cuaron conversation. However, I will say that I think Children of Men is a masterpiece, and his Harry Potter film was also fantastic.

Agree on both. Children of Men, in particular, is one of my favorites. Not completely sold on all his work, but those 2 you mention are rock solid.

You are welcome to change the subject

I thought we were excused because Cuaron, Hitchcock and De Palma are all on the collection

or are you talking about Windex?

For those on the fence about Satyajit Ray films, and because i can't recommend his films enough, Filmspotting podcast is currently doing a Marathon of him covering 6 films (3 already on CC blu, and 3 from the upcoming Apu Trilogy).

http://www.filmspotting.net/marathon...yajit-ray.html

There are currently 5 episodes so it will probably be complete next week.

"Boring" is an odd criticism, IMO, but I can totally respect why people might not like Mulholland Dr.

Very very strange, but it looks like Amazon is taking orders on the long-OOP Third Man Criterion Blu-ray at a $39.95 price!

Right now, it's listed as "temporarily out of stock", which could mean anything. Nevertheless, I put an order in. I've been looking for this version of the movie for a long time and I'd rather not pay three figures for it.

It's sold through Amazon and not a third party, so I have my fingers crossed. Best of luck to all who decide to order!
