Thank you so much for the code. I didn't know about it, and just used it to place an order online. Very much appreciated!

Just watched The Big Clock, a film I saw recommended in a random corner on the web. What a splendid noir. The plot is far more intricate than I expected, constantly digging the hole deeper for Milland as he tries to maneuver several parties at once. I was just shocked at how far they kept the tension flowing without making the plot convoluted or applying some questionable motivation to certain characters. By the end I was just so enamored by it all that I questioned how the hell they were gonna end it. It uses setting and camerawork as well as any noir I can think of.

I always like seeing hidden noir gems getting the treatment. Would love to see it happen.

Very nice. What are you going to do when your collection outgrows the cabinet? It looks like you're almost there.

You might try Casetopia... http://www.casetopia.com/default.asp

Why should I pay for something that I can get for free whenever I want it?

(The movie can be found in its entirety on YouTube.)

I saw it for the first time a week or two ago too, and really enjoyed it. It has such a strange tone - The movie seemed so light at first that I was wondering why it was even called a noir, and that made the killing seem extra brutal.

It's a title that MIGHT be hinted at by the New Years cartoon, so fingers crossed!

My problem with them is that the 1-disc Criterion cases are oos and have been for a long time now. I eventually got tired of waiting and ended up getting the five pack from CC.
On a somewhat related note-my copy of The Killers arrived today and I did the "shake-test" to the package and heard that dreaded sound of loose plastic inside. Fortunately, it turned out to be just one of those little teeth things that keep the booklets/inserts in place and it didn't get into the disc compartment.

Same. The tone gradually turned into something I wasn't expecting while still keeping that slight comedic touch (the artist lady.)

I'd rank them:

There Will Be Blood
Boogie Nights
Magnolia
Punch Drunk Love
Hard Eight
Inherent Vice
The Master

I know it's not relevant to Criterion, but I have to do this because it upsets me seeing one of his best so low:

Punch Drunk Love
The Master
Magnolia
There Will Be Blood
Inherent Vice
Boogie Nights
Hard Eight
