Default Criterion Haul Surprise

I just came back home from college for Thanksgiving break, and I was delighted to see my father surprised me with a ton of Criterion films, all of which I've never seen (but have been wanting to). So now I'm the proud owner of:

Mulholland Dr.
The Brood
Ace in the Hole
Kwaidan
The Lower Depths (DVD)
Eclipse Series 9: Postwar Kurosawa (DVD)
Vampyr (DVD)
Stray Dog (DVD)
The Virgin Spring (DVD)

Looks like I know what I'll be doing over break.

You will not be disappointed by The Virgin Spring; it's one of my favorite Bergman films.

There's nothing wrong with the transfer. People really need to stop playing Chicken Little and learn about film transfers, film grain, film stocks, etc, instead of thinking everything that doesn't look 100% perfect is a flaw.

Stylistically it's brilliant.

Fassbinder shoots a movie like no other.

Plotwise...it's pretty thin.

But it's just so great to look at.

Now I'm going to watch Top Gun ten times in a row.

Cause I'm a man dammit!

...I'm a MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can anyone provide me with evidence that Criterion is releasing Ashby's "Shampoo" sometime potentially soon? I've only heard rumor thus far and nothing concrete. I actually really want the film, and just want assurance that this is happening.

I feel like I've been reading a very sad man's group therapy session, in which we all learn something about that man he had never realized. Are you also aware that Fassbinder was homosexual?

Come to think of it... there is quite a lot of gay directors...

Gus Van Sant, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Pedro Almodóvar, John Waters, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Terence Davies, Luchino Visconti...

I can't include them all of course...those are fine gay films too though.

A boy could only handle so many at once...comeon.

Wages of Fear is such a terrific film. Watched it for the first time this morning. So intense and bold ending.

Thanks to all of the positive comments on Ride the Pink Horse, I've decided to give it another shot.

I also decided to repurchase Children of Paradise because I'm 99.9% certain that my favorable view of the film on an initial watch will turn to one of love this time.

I think it's flawless....until the last 10 seconds. Which I found ridiculous. Not what happens, but rather how it happens.

Sadly, I wasn't a fan. I think I like the idea better on paper than visually.
