It was just a bit of a surprise i'd say, wasn't really expecting it or didn't see it coming - which is good I guess!
The girl in it was perfectly cast though and fantastic in the role. I haven't seen any other films from the director, could you recommend any - I did love Fat Girl. |

![]() As to other films by Breillat, I think that Sex Is Comedy is very good. I also like Romance a good deal. I'm personally a fan of Anatomy of Hell -- but it's DEFINITELY not for everyone. I might read up on it a bit before deciding whether to see it or not. It really isn't a "good" movie per se, but it's interesting. Heh. Sex Is Comedy is probably her best of the ones I've seen. |

Watched Peeping Tom this afternoon and the supplement on the film. I never knew this destroyed Powell's career in the UK.
I'm not sure what happened for this to be OOP, but this needs to be on blu. Such a fantastic film that looks at voyerism on so many levels. |

Belgian artist Laurent Durieux has released a limited edition art print of one of my favorite movies in the Criterion Collection. I ordered the print this afternoon. This one is a surprise, since I never expected to see a new print from anyone, much less Durieux, for it. Love this movie and David Bowie's performance in it. I really like this piece, and Durieux has given it his own interpretation of the main theme of the film, the symbiotic relationship between the Japanese prison camp commander and Bowie's allegorical character haunted by past sins.
![]() According to Durieux's Facebook, the print will be used for the cover of an upcoming LP re-release of Ryuichi Sakamoto's iconic film score on a double album. I can now add this to several works I now own by Durieux and other artists that are based on films put out by Criterion. Last edited by oildude; 11-21-2015 at 11:14 PM. |

Regular. Only 40 variants were available and sold out in minutes. I like both but went with the regular. The variants were larger prints and considerably more expensive. I wanted a smaller print for wall space considerations. That, and I just like the bluer tones of the regular a bit more. These were released by Durieux on his Retropolis website and ship from Belgium.
Here is the variant. It has a more greenish night-time cast instead of blue and more of a yellow hue than orange in the warm tones. One thing I really like about these prints is the inclusion of the Bowie character's little brother, who is integral to Bowie's motivations. [Show spoiler] Regulars are still available. I am super excited to be getting a print of one of my favorite films. Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence was my first Criterion purchase on Blu-ray in 2010. I had seen it many times on VHS and DVD over the years. After seeing it on Blu-ray for the first time, and after a long hiatus since my last viewing on DVD, it was like discovering a whole new film. I began to want to see more movies by this Nagisa Oshima fellow, which lead me to buy his Eclipse set and In the Realm of the Senses (now that one would be an interesting art print ![]() Last edited by oildude; 11-22-2015 at 05:47 AM. |

Criterion has been tweeting about Gasper Noé a lot lately and now they're mentioning Irreversible, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see an inevitable release.

As to Noé's Irreversible, I'm very torn as to whether I would purchase it. I own it on DVD, solely because I was so impressed by it when I originally saw it. However, it's one of those films that I can't really imagine watching again. At least, not often. But if they had some quality, interesting extras I might be forced to upgrade. I guess we'll see. |
