Great month. Particularly excited about The Executioner and The Tree of Wooden Clogs. To me, that's what the CC is all about

I get that you will still be able to buy the films separately, but nowhere in the description of the box set it says it is limited, it uses words as Deluxe and Collectors which have not been used for other box sets I think, but still if this is something new they should clearly mark it.
He wants the interested party to pre-order asap

I get it's a joke, but it's at least a little tone-deaf, particularly this year.

Assuming the set is just the 3 releases slid into a slipbox.. What are the actual odds of being able to contact them and get the additional pieces?

They defo do, as I said I got full Zatoichi replacements, didn't have to give any reason why I wanted it.

Also the bluray set is square so won't be a typical release, will be similiar to Zatoichi I'm guessing... going by the pictures.

I don't know if I'm on your side of the fence (I guess I am since I sense you don't think it's necessarily a great film, and I'd agree) but I still don't see how age factors into one's opinion of the film, though...is there something about Boyhood that divides according to generation? It's about a boy who grew up in suburban America in the 2000s...but I'm not sure what being over a certain age affects one's opinions on it...

The Tati films are an exception. The word is the Tati estate went to SC and told them to license the films to Criterion so they may release a box set.

Some early predictions for the rest of 2016.

November

Black Girl
Election
His Girl Friday
Kiarostami's Koker Trilogy
Tales of Hoffman

December

Dragon Inn
Lone Wolf and Cub
Multiple Maniacs
The Squid and the Whale

I may be tempted of buying the Box set trilogy. I only have The Devil's Backbone but I can give that one to my cousin as a gift and purchase the complete set. Also, I actually like the DVD cover more than the BD.

Definitely getting Pan's Labyrinth but had a question about the trilogy set. Do all movies come with an English track option?

I think the really issue was Roger Waters Wall Tour and album / Concert releases. Him wanting to separate the two.

Also many are still waiting for the original album on BLU audio disc and or SACD with multi channel mixes. I bet they are trying to prep it all out for a major release wih box sets etc. at least I hope so.
Well, Sony Music has the video rights. Plus MGM was involved with The Wall until Turner bought the MGM library in 1986, Turner owned this for a couple years. It would make a great part in The Criterion Collection (And throw in Slow Dancing in the Big CIty, whoever owns it, it's never released on video before)

Life experience, maturity, developed tastes...

Do we see works of art at 40 the same way we saw them at 16? I don't think so. I fell asleep when trying to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time in my early teens. Nowadays I think it's one of the greatest films ever.

It might have more to do w/ Linklater than it does with the film itself. Linklater is among a handful of still active directors who can do no wrong with a certain group of younger film fans.

I think age lends itself to a little more objectivity. Older fans have favorites, too. They (we) just don't greet every new film with such unbridled fervor.

Its just my opinion... Not looking to upset or challenge anyone, but I don't think that even those who are all on board with Boyhood will give a crap about it given time and multiple watches. Even my MOST objective side has a difficult time grasping what this film's enduring merits are or could be.

The age thing is bollocks. I admired, but didn't love the film, and I'm relatively young. And I doubt the film would have garnered as many Academy Award nominations if it didn't appeal to older, more mature viewers.

Different people just respond to different things in unique ways. There's no rhyme or reason to it - that's just the way it is.

In the case of Boyhood, absolutely, that film is as subjective as it gets.

I hated my own boyhood, so I couldn't care less about watching somebody else's on the big screen. But I can see how others can connect to the film based on their own individual experiences and tastes. That connection simply doesn't exist for me personally, but even I won't deny that the film is well-made and designed to accept a person's investment in the character and experiences.

I think there is something to the age factor. I'm of an age that relates to the parents of this film. Boyhood was a planned in advance like we do with viewing art, a group outing. Afterwards is coffee and we try to write down five things we liked best.

Several of us had at the top of the list my kids should see this film, it's the story of their life, not ours. What I found a bit odd is that there was much more initial interest from those of us who are now older adults with grown kids to see the film even though we didn't relate to it as well as our children. Our children were somewhat impressed but the strongest reaction was they related but had grown past it and we (older adults) didn't really get then so why would we now.
