I'm hoping David Cronenberg's The Dead Zone will get a Criterion release since I don't see Paramount ever releasing it. Also his film Crash on Criterion as well.

I can definitely believe that it isn't, but I do like the movie and would buy a modestly priced release of it. Would definitely not pay Criterion price for it.

I didn't really dig "Dark Blue", I think Shelton should stick to sports movies. That said, Russell is pretty good in it (but, then, I think Harrison Ford is better in "Hollywood Homicide" than any movie for a decade or more in either direction -- it's just not a good movie). Shelton knows how to write a movie star character, for sure.

I have a feeling we'll see CRASH by the end of the year, either from Criterion or Warner Archive. Maybe their new friendly relationship would allow Warner Archive access to the Criterion commentary?

Yeah Tin Cup is definitely not excellent but it is enjoyable. I definitely don't think it is Criterion material but I am surprised Warner hasn't even release a reasonably priced bare bones edition. I love Dark Blue. I think it's one of the best cop thrillers ever made. I'm one of it's very big supporters from it's very small fan base.

Oh let's hope so! I'm a huge 80s-90s Rosanna Arquette fan and James Spader fan. They've both always been underused in the film industry unfortunately.

If I had to take one stab at any of that. I would say, Jerome Robbins co-directed West Side Story, and that was speculated to be the other flag shown in the New Year's Day drawing (it being a Puerto Rico flag with musical notes).
I would guess that Euzhan Palcy having a page would mean that A Dry White Season is getting the Criterion treatment. I believe it's an MGM title. Excellent film with great performances from Donald Sutherland and Marlon Brando.

Not that phantom pages mean anything, but these would be my guesses:

Donna Deitch: Desert Hearts
Michael Radford: White Mischief
Ron Shelton: Cobb
Joan Micklin Silver: Crossing Delancey
Euzhan Palcy: Sugar Cane Alley
John Sturges: The Old Man and the Sea
Norman Jewison: Agnes of God
Ridley Scott: ???
Bryan Singer: Public Access
Jerome Robbins: The Pajama Game

Not that phantom pages mean anything.

So they just add them for no reason? Some of them are on there for ages before they get announced. Other times they simply lose the rights to the film: The File on Thelma Jordon is a good example. They had phantom pages up for that one, but Olive ended up releasing it instead.

I saw this years ago at a repertory theater here in NYC. Remember thinking it was a pretty nifty little move. Strange and effective. I'm looking forward to giving it another look.

It was a double bill with something else. . . I think maybe Killer's Kiss.

On a related note, I saw another double bill at that theater once of Taking Off and A Thousand Clowns. I keep hearing rumors that Criterion is going to release Taking Off, but never got any further than that. Wonder if that's still in the cards.

I have a friend who LOVES A Thousand Clowns. That was his favorite go-to mostly-forgotten great movie. Mine was/is "Tunes of Glory" (hence the avatar). So when mine was released by Criterion, he was jealous, and when his wound up released on a DVD-R, he was annoyed and jealous. There would be a certain karmic justice if Criterion wound up releasing A Thousand Clowns on Blu-ray. I hope somebody gets around to it eventually.

I asked MisterLime on the Kino thread about A Thousand Clowns the other day, he responded that there isn't even an HD master of it yet.

Not really surprised -- I think anything that was only released on a DVD-R is automatically unlikely to come to Blu -- but that's too bad, it's a good little movie. (As for "Tunes of Glory", I bet it will be released in the UK someday.)

I've seen it a few times on TCM. I would agree with jshaide's assessment. It's disturbing
[Show spoiler]because of the rape that opens the film but her subsequent relationship with Meeker's character is almost; if not equally, as disturbing.

I love it too. The whole cast was terrific but I fell with Barbara Harris from the first moment I saw her.
