It's a top 5 Kazan for me (A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, On The Waterfront, East of Eden, and A Streetcar Named Desire being the other 4.) I love Network as well and the comparison is fair but AFITC is more dated since it was nearly 20 years between the two and it deals with radio, not television.

My immediate reaction is to say it's really not much like Network at all. There's some overlap in that they both have to do with media but A Face in the Crowd has more to do with a charismatic grifter exploiting the media to create a cult of personality.

(Expect a lot of 'more relevant than ever' comments in reviews and discussions

)

It's a fantastic film and in its own ways every bit as good as Network (and just about anything else, for that matter).

I actually like the Police Story cover. It's bright and bold, and you instantly get a sense of what to expect from th film with it.

In for Jackie Chan, Kazan and both Jarmusch. Expensive month for me. I'm very pleased with the month in general, but a little disappointed it didn't have a "holy shit!" announcement.

Diamonds of the Night seems like a really really good blind buy.

I'm also in for Police Story/Police Story 2, Face in the Crowd, Stranger than Paradise, and Night on Earth, although I'll probably wait until a sale to grab some of them.

With a new movie out in May it would seem like a missed opportunity if it's not announced. Has Criterion ever released anything alongside a new theatrical release of said franchise?

OK, did some research and it looks like I'm in for everything other than the Jackie Chans. And except for the Jarmusch films, they will all be blind buys.

I'm getting at least 7, possibly 8 (I haven't made up my mind yet on Japón -- but I'll probably end up getting it, as it sounds fascinating and beautiful).

Add in Feb., and we're talking another 4, one of which is Berlin Alexanderplatz. After the Bergman set this month, with at least two more in 4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days and Shame -- this will have been a busy year in just these first 4 months!
