It will be interesting to see if any copies of Dr. Strangelove turn up there....

I would have a heart attack from joy if they announced Inland Empire. I'm only just barely exaggerating too.

Got 5 new ones via post the other day. None of which I've watched, unfortunately; especially considering that 2 of them are blind buys. But I've been busy, and things have been rather chaotic around here lately.

Anyway:

Blue Velvet
Funny Games
Let the Sunshine In
One Sings the Other Doesn't
House of Games

I know almost nothing about One Sings ... except the little I've read. I basically got it because Varda directed it.

Kinda of odd that they wouldn't have announced it going OOP...now whether to wait and see or seek out one at inflated prices.

I have a confession to make.

There’s no easy way to say this, so i’m just going to come out and say it.

Sometimes the decision to buy and/or sell a Criterion title cums down to whether or not I like the cover art/case design.

Sometimes I don’t even like the picture that much, but the cover is so darn cool that I decide to keep it in my collection, even though I know i’ll never watch it.

...Scanners is such a film.

And it goes both ways. Sometimes i’ll get rid of a title, just because i’m lukewarm about it and the cover art does nothing for me.

Is that wrong?

Does anyone else have any guilty confessions, of which they would care to unburden themselves from?

Like enjoying the dinner scene in Salo.

I honestly doubt that you're alone in that, Ray.

It's like food or anything else: Presentation is important. It's not the only factor, obviously. But it isn't irrelevant either.

Is it wrong? No. Is it weird? Yup. But who cares. We all have our own little quirks. Me? I couldn't care less about the cover art or the case the movie comes in. But that's me. Enjoy your art work/cases.

Personally, I try and get as many slipcovers as I can, and I'll always go for a DigiPak if I can. But like you said, "that's me." I'm not huge on steelbooks, but I do have a few. I think 5.

And of course I love the big flourish-y sets like the Kubrick, Godard, etc. And that Bergman set is just something to behold.

So, I have to admit that stuff like that does indeed matter to me. To others, like you, it doesn't. This is what makes the world go around, right?

Honestly I can’t think of five titles that i’m interested in for July.

Right now I can’t even think of three.

Blue Velvet and that’s about it.

It’s depressing.

My blind buying record last year was abysmal.

Can’t afford to take those kinds of crazy chances again this year.

Maybe if I can sell my copy of Berlin Alexanderplatz (see signature below), I might reinvest the funds in some sort of high risk, high reward hedge fund.

...perhaps a blind buying Ponzi scheme.

Sounds like The Criterion Channel would be perfect for you, assuming you don't already have it.
