Some of the best, most accessible Samurai films can be found in the ZATOICHI series. If you haven't seen any of those, I think they are a perfect way to guide you into the Samurai genre. They are styled very much like American westerns, but always with that Japanese historical/political angle they wrap many of their action movies in, which for me only enhances the experience. Lots of the Samurai story and character conventions made their first appearances in B films in Japan, which these essentially are, and if you enjoy these it's only a small leap to the more artistically minded entries.

If you haven't seen any of them, try to find a way to watch a couple without having to buy the box set. However, I have to stress that if you are not a fan of period action/adventure movies in general, these won't be to your liking either. In that case, I got nothin'!

The seller, Rarewaves, still has one available at the same price as of this posting. They are a very good seller and usually have the best deals on UK imports, but it's hard to keep up with their listings on eBay as they sell so much and eBay's search refinements are no where near as extensive as other sites.
Glad I could help someone! Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to enjoy my movie collection all that much recently, so I didn't pick it up yet. My unwatched list and 'need to rewatch' list is pretty long. Finding it a bit hard to find the time.

My Friday prediction is a delayed announcement. haha. But for real, I'd take the ones I bolded above in a heartbeat. Especially One From the Heart. I have a soft spot for that one and I believe it's in the shape of Teri Garr...and Frederic Forrest...and especially Tom Waits, and with that comes Crystal Gale. Well, damn.

I recently picked up the Coppola 5-Film set just for that, but if it got a new restoration, that would be nice.

Every time I make predictions, I'm basically a contestant on The Price is Right asking the ladies if I have at least one right, but here goes nothing:

Bamboozled
The Prince of Tides
An Unmarried Woman
Streetwise / Tiny
Spellbound
Roma (2018) (also 4K)

There’s never enough time to get to our collections, but remember a good solid film library is never about watching everything. It’s about watching what you want, when you want.

Let me throw Samurai Rebellion out there on the Bluray wish list. Kobayashi, Mifune & Nakadai. What's not to love.

Oh yeah. They even have some in HD like Hunter in Dark. I wish they would release some soon. Always say if you want them to release them to e-mail them, as it at least shows interest. Need more Gosha on Blu-ray. Goyokin would also be amazing and can't imagine how great that could look on HD.

That would be great. To be honest, surprised it hasn't happened yet. Even more surprising is Kobayashi's Human Condition. How does this not have a Region A release?

That certainly wouldn’t suck.

...but The Human Condition is the dream for me.

A month of Come and See and The Human Condition would be pretty fantastic.

Toss in a Fires in the Plain or When a Woman Ascends the Stairs upgrade and I’d be a very, very happy boy.

*Of course now that I’ve released that into the ether, we’ll probably just get a month’s worth of Olivier Assayas and Claire Denis titles.

Well, we are getting Bamboozled for sure in February, but hopefully Come and See as well. What I'm really hoping for is a Japanese release and an upgrade.

Also, does Criterion still have the rights to the Hit? I'm surprised this hasn't had an upgrade yet.

I'm hoping for Pandora's Box since its getting released tomorrow in Germany. If we can't get that, I'm least hoping for The Cameraman.

I would assume so. Criterion keeps each of its titles in print as long as they have the rights to it. If one has this question regarding any title Criterion has released, simply go to their website, do a search on the title, and look at the "Purchase Options" box (which indicates what format it's available in). If they no longer have the rights to that title, it'll say "Out of Print". If it's in print, it's pretty much guaranteed that they still have the rights.

I picked up Red River at the B&N sale today and noticed when I got home and unwrapped it that the bluray sticker is stuck to the inside cardboard slipcase and was not on the outside plastic wrap. Anyone else ever have a sticker stuck to the slipcase instead of the outer art? Is this how Red River was packed? I'm doubting that, but I thought I'd ask. I'm leery to remove the sticker for fear of ripping the cardboard slipcase.

I know mine wasn't. I would have remembered that.

I don't think it's a re-wrap, but anything is possible I suppose. I wish I had noticed the sticker wasn't on the outer wrap before I opened it, but I didn't. I wrote Criterion about it. Pretty sure if I try to remove the sticker it will leave a mark/or rip the cardboard box. Very odd. Never seen this before.
