Has anyone ordered the Essential Fellini set directly from Criterion? Do they ship it separately in its own box? I want to pick it up during the flash sale, but it looks like a beast and I’m weary of it being packed with other titles and crushing everything else in the box.

South Carolina is still not on the list.

Nice.

While not ordering it directly from them, but from I want to say Deep Discount, it was shipped in a box I'm assuming Criterion was shipping them in initially as it was custom sized to fit the set and had various labels dictating its content. Same thing when I ordered Bergman, B&N shipped it in a box that must have been from Criterion's distribution as it was a custom protective box with labels. I'd assume they'd ship it the same way and separately, but even if they for some weird reason didn't and there was an issue they've always been good about resolving issues.

With Criterion about to reissue Red Shoes and Mulholland Dr in 4k, does it make sense to buy a blu ray like Tess, which is based on a 4k restoration?

Or is the likelihood too strong that the film (and others like it) make it onto 4k eventually?

This is the checklist I consider. The last point may be less important after year 1 of Criterion UHD.
  • 4K master available
  • >5 years since blu-ray release?
  • Inventory is low or close to being sold out of current print run
  • Movie is a contemporary or world classic capable of selling 10,000 units

There are people who believe that Criterion is going to be more hesitant about releasing Polanski movies from now on. Also, Tess is probably not as much of a cult film among art-house buffs as the others.

Got both orders done in under 3 minutes, including the receiving of and application of the $50 gift card.

Now, all that's left is the waiting.

Wow, placed an order, got my 50 dollar card for hitting the loyalty points threshold, and placed my second order with the gift card within three minutes without any issues at all. That's a first for these!

Got my order in and was surprised the gift card was instantaneous haha. Probably gonna save it for the next go-around; there are a few things I wouldn't mind spending it on, but I think I'm gonna wait and see if they announce any new titles I really want by the time the next sale comes around

Yeah, I wanted to get Nightmare Alley but it has a 4K restoration, so like should I just hold off? I know there's no way of knowing for sure, but seems like a good chance for a 4K right?

Whatever site issues they've had in the past at the start of sales, they appear to have solved them. That was as smooth as I've seen it in the seven years I've been participating in their Flash Sales.

[Show spoiler]

I had already picked up High Sierra earlier this month because I didn't want to wait.

Went with two I've seen and loved and one blind buy that has a bonus feature to make me feel frugal.

Seems like a good chance of going out of print before it ever gets a 4K release. It's a legacy 20th Century Fox title.

Was this the first time there wasn't some code to type in too? I don't recall the prices just automatically adjusting to half off before.

Might as well fall in with tradition and list my purchase:

First order to get the $50 gift card:

Second order with the $50 gift card:

The Zeman set is a blind buy.
