Picked up La Bamba (really wanted a 4k release) and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio 4K from Amazon!

Fingers crossed a Godzilla Heisei-Era boxset is a possibility.

Someone with a better detective skills than me can probably verify, but I noticed the two Johnnie To Election films are no longer streaming on the Criterion channel, and not even Amazon Prime anymore. This makes me think that Tartan might have FINALLY lost the rights to these two.

If so, I really hope someone picks these up. Criterion would be great, if they release them somewhat soon, otherwise Radiance, Eureka, etc, would be great as well.

This doesn't really help answer anything, really, but I do see them available on Tubi. Election is on Kanopy (select Library streaming service), and they credit Kino as the studio, though I assume that dates back to them distributing Tartan releases. I d hope your hunch is right, and some label has picked them up for release.

Godzilla '54 - New restoration, 70th anniversary
On the Waterfront - 70th anniversary, might be through Sony though.
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg - 60th anniversary, new restoration
…And I was going to get most of these next round (in two weeks). Fudge.

Hmm, my hopes are slightly dashed. Even on Tubi the masters look horrible. Not sure what the deal was with that and Tartan, as these have good masters to begin with.

Either way, I really hope Tartan doesn't have these anymore as they deserve decent releases here in the US. I've actually been inclined to get the Australian releases, but these titles strike me as something that will get releases here soon enough.

I think that it has been mentioned that Criterion was credited for the restoration of Raise the Red Lantern, which means there is a strong chance that they have the following titles:
Johnnie To's The Mission, Zhang Yimou's To Live!, and Hou Hsiao-Hsien's The Puppetmaster and A City of Sadness, as they all belong to the same producer, but I don't think they can release them until 2026.

i just broke the news on Columbia Classics Volume 5, and it's going to include On the Waterfront, and The Age of Innocence. I think many thought one, or both would come from Criterion instead.

it will include these films:
  • All the King's Men (1949)
  • On the Waterfront (1954) (!!)
  • A Man For All Seasons (1966)
  • Tootsie (1982)
  • The Age of Innocence (1993)
  • Little Women (2019)

The Mission is one I've been hoping would get a Blu-ray for awhile. Why wouldn't it be able to get a release until 2026?

The producer wants them to be theatrical exclusives until 2026.

Well, with this sale, I finally snagged six Kurosawa films I've wanted for awhile which means the inevitable announcement of the long awaited Kurosawa Criterion Box set is coming in a week or so.

You're all welcome.

Added a few more from Barnes, shipped, since Amazon didn't want to match Risky Business at the time:

Since B&N has been slower than a wrecked train about shipping what I bought, I went ahead and grabbed this (and some paints) at Walmart.com. It’s arriving a week before Barnes and Noble’s estimated arrival date.

Including the American cut of Gojira (1984), Godzilla 1985!

Last year I did the Kino sale in July. This year I decided to go back to the B&N Criterion sale for a few films. They are:

I also bought two Japanese films that, the first, Criterion didn't get the rights too and the second being in their "we own the rights for but may never release" back catalog hell:

A nice month of fun film watching shall follow.

I can't find any info on these re-releases. Amazon and Criterion.com both only have the original dual format releases listed.

I'm not sure if it was ever available to order, but Barnes & Noble does have pages up for them with the 7/09 release date. I see them in Amazon's internal system too, though no live page yet.
