Considering that he died barely three months before it was scheduled to come out, it seems inconceivable that it wasn’t already close to releasable shape. This is when you’re rushing to do all the technical finishes and getting the resources of your studio ready to push the film out, not change the storytelling. He was already talking about which critics to show it to in the days right before he died.

(This is different than completely taking a film apart AFTER it comes out, like with 2001 and The Shining. You still have to go through all the usual finishing steps just to get to that point.)

The US needed Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis. I really enjoyed Le dîner de cons and Les visiteurs.

How about a Costa-Gavras set? With his three big political dramas - Missing, Z, and State of Siege.
The transfer of Missing they had on the channel recently was exceptionally good, noticeably better than the Indicator release. All three films are loaded with great natural shots of busy street environments, not to mention the array of storied faces that the director was fond of casting.
There's a lot to pore over in these films and I would love to get pristine versions of all 3.

Del Toro's Frankenstein confirmed by the filmmaker himself to be getting a physical release. If Netflix licensed Pinocchio to Criterion, they'll probably do the same for it.

I love French comedies in general. Sure there are stinkers among them, but I'll take a French language comedy over an English language one on almost any day. They're very dependent on language, as usual for comedies. If you don't understand the language, you most probably won't get their humour. Me for my part think French insults to be much more poetic than English ones most of the time.
(Do you know the Youtuber called Angry Video Game Nerd? I prefer Le joueur du grenier, basically the Nerd's French copycat.)

There must be a reason somehow so many French comedies get their (inferior) American remake.

Yeah, I would love more Costa-Gavras films on Blu! I hope The Axe gets a Blu release with English subtitles around the time of the Park Chan-wook remake!

I assume that they are big hits in France and US studios think that adapting them into English will be an easy money maker. Now that you mention it, there does seem to be an unusually large number of US remakes of French comedies.

The most famous one should be True Lies (original: La Totale !).
One of my favourites has been remade too: Le dîner de cons. They totally butchered it in Dinner for Schmucks.

Edit:
There's also a remake of Le père Noël est une ordure, a film in my personal all-time top 5 of any genre. I don't dare to watch the remake, mainly because I can't stand Steve Martin.

Mixed Nuts. I have to say I enjoy it, but I am curious to see the original if it's subbed anywhere...!

I'm so happy to hear it will get a physical release! Hope its a Criterion one, but regardless, I hope it comes with some great special features. I love watching bts of his movies.

That's the most even distribution, and it allows you to pick up the titles that came out in the 2 months prior between each sale throughout the entire year.
I agree with you, but it makes sense that Criterion would want to gain a little extra profit for the extra month of titles instead of giving a piece to B&N. Selfishly, I'll be thankful if this year's flash sale is again in October. I want to buy the Wes Anderson set from them, which will also trigger a $50 coupon.

Also, these Amazon coupons and seemingly random Walmart prices are making me think twice about buying something as soon as it's 50% off. I've missed out on some major discounts (Funny Girl being the most recent example).

Seems some time since they last did a Criterion sale).

I have limited time on the forum (can't get on here all day), so I have to make one post on the announcements.
I think at the end of the day it's perfectly fine to say a certain slate has no interest to someone. There is nothing wrong with it.

The problem is when you say something and members react as if you insulted one of their family members. Everyone has different tastes and art is pretty subjective. My opinion is that the November 2025 isn't a great one, but that's from the perspective of my interests.

I will give Criterion their due credit with the revival of the Eclipse line, as there is a lot of potential there. Still, October was a let down in terms of Criterion releases and November was another let down.

Still, we are at a point where there are simply too many labels and too many movies coming out, so when a label has a month where nothing interests me, it's almost at the point where it's a relief because it's becoming really hard to keep up.

I still have titles on my want list from as far back as a few years ago (I'm not being complacent but I don't think they will sell out or/and go out-of-print). Some titles (including Criterion's) I'll wait for a sale when the time is right. I still pre-order some titles, but not as many as I used to. Very true about light/quiet months, it is a relief when there is hardly anything you're interested in that gets announced. It breaks it up and allows you to get titles that have been on your want list for some time.

Still enjoy and look forward to the announcements in the monthly cycle, some more than others.

I guess Captain Blood isn't coming this year same with White Dog, The Year of Living Dangerously, Brother From Another Planet, Hud, The Time Masters, Red Beard, Drunken Angel, The Bad Sleep Well, and Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore oh well there's always next year. As frustrating as that is I don't mind waiting on them longer. I just hope it's months from now, and not a few years from now. Other than that this year has been pretty freaking sweet, and super exciting release wise.

Maybe December might have a few of these titles in the lineup, but then again it might also be full of 4Ks too like last year. I hope December isn't just full of 4Ks though I hope it's different, and has more than 4 titles.

I watched Un Indien dans la ville a while ago, and I was shocked when I thought this is the same as Jungle 2 Jungle.
