I know which beggs the question why that and not Matthew Barney's Cremaster Cycle?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

It will be cool but I think CC needs to waight to delve into shorts on blu. Let's get some necessary features out first.

I took the opportunity to bolster my samurai film collection with the B&N sale:

Kagemusha (BD)
Harakiri
Rebel Samurai: Sixties Swordplay Classics (box set)

With this B&N sale I have now completed my Criterion Collection. I have every CC Blu minus 'In the Realm of the Senses' and I will not buy it because of its graphic/pornographic content.

It's a shame that 'Gomorrah' is going to miss the sale by a day, because I would really love to only have to spend $14 on it, but oh well...

You're probably right but I thought I'd just chuck "My Life as a Dog" out there as a potential title also...

You might want to hold off on Gomorrah, it has a fair bit of graphic and disturbing content.

I'm really hoping someone can help me out.....
I've being trying to order two titles on bn.com, but I can't get ANY discount codes to work and I have no idea why.
So, is there anyone here who will be making a further visit to an actual store who would be willing to pick up Wings of Desire and Howards End for $13 fir me???
I would of course forward payment covering the sales price, tax, Paypal fees and shipping.

Please.......

I'm sure it's mentioned somewhere, but Amazon just dropped the price on a handful more of Criterion titles (most $19.99 with the exception of the Montereys, at $24.99 and $14.99 )

^Hopefully they will add Seventh Seal and For All Mankind to that price drop as well. I'd like to get those two along with Chungking Express.

Anyone know if Criterion has the replacement cases in stock now for titles other than The Third Man?

None of the others have been announced, yet. Still waiting for the "official" announcement on Criterion's site, which Jon Mulvaney said would be mid-November, at the earliest.

I'm still waiting on that info as well but in the meantime i picked up Wings of Desire and In The Realm Of The Senses. Very pleased with both purchases Very happy Senses was the uncut version as i just now heard that some dvds have blurring or pixels covering up certain graphic scenes (which is most of the film? lol) As a man i cringed and squealed like a girl at the end lol

hey horseflesh, fellow dub here
did you set up a new account? when you go to checkout, it asks you if you want to set up a new account or just go to checkout. the first time i did it, i didnt set up a new account, so the coupons didnt work (or at least didnt apply the full 20%). second time around, i did set up a new account, and it then took 20% off the most expensive disk (and a little bit, less than 20%) off the others. the coupon code i used was specific to new accounts and 20% off most pricey title. let us know if that works.

I can handle graphic violence and language etc. but I (and of course neither my wife) can't handle anything in the pornographic content. A little nudity and sex is different than porn whether it's graphic or not.

You're a long way from home

If I create another new account then surely I wouldn't get my Membership 10% discount??
When I did create my account I never saw anything about 20% off, but I did get a mail with codes for discounts for various things. I tried the $5 off a DVD, but that didn't work

* I'm just thinking; I have used my account before, so I probably got my 20% discount then.
I should still be able to get the $5 off to work though....

Hehe...my wife came in not for the film but I think it was for the deleted scenes which the special features were just equally as graphic and she was wondering why I was watching porn (it was the scene with servant ladies gaining up on the new servant lady). Personally, I thought of the film as artistic of two people who love each other through sex...too much of it is not a good thing. I found the film to be quite interesting since it was quite sexually tragic and the fact that it was based on a true story. Was surprised there was several films released that was based on the character of the woman.

But if anything, it led me to just purchase the other controversial Criterion release..."I Am Curious..." box set. Havent' received it yet but curious to see why it's so tragic.

Yea something like that wouldn't go over too well with my wife, no matter how artistic it can be. Lol! + I try to stay away from anything with scenes of prolonged intense graphic intercourse.

What is graphic about 'Gomorrah' because I was under the impression that it was a film about the Comorrah gang? Somebody said earlier that if I didn't like 'Realm of the Senses', then I may want to stay away from that.

You may want to see all the reviews on Rottentomatoes.com. For the most part, the film received positive reviews but that was because the film captures the life of the people involved in these gangs and the brutality. Kill and be killed. I think Roger Ebert said it well that with Godfather and other films that we have seen, there is always a name and I think another critic talked about how other gangster films covered the luxury of being a gangster but with this film, it captures the brutality of what exists probably on a daily basis and how interwined this gang is with corporate business and so forth.

Anyone catch this video of this Camorra hit (note: This is the longer version of the video):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4z_oyvd9wM

If anything, it's just sad to see how these things happen in daylight and to see people just standing there. I guess they're so used to it.

Somebody compared IN THE REALM OF THE SENSES to GOMMORAH? Well, there's a comparison that never would've occurred to me!

I guess you could say it has the same sort of cold emotional detatchment as SENSES, but other than that it is worlds different, imo. It contains quite a bit of fairly brutal violence (though most of it is implied) but nothing that any serious movie fan hasn't experienced before.

A great film, BTW. Already pre-ordered.
