They almost always take more than a week to reply to e-mails. They are hard to get by phone as well and they don't return calls.

Personally for me, every one of Kurosawa's films is as close to perfect as a film can possibly get (except for maybe his earliest couple of films).

Of course they will. I pre-ordered most future Criterion releases for $27.99 just a week ago, including Walkabout. They fluctuate constantly. Eventually B&N, Amazon or some other website will have a Criterion sale.

And?

I now feel as if my post is more pointless than yours, CG.

Okay, so everyone seems to be so caught up on prices all of a sudden just because one online retailer's(Amazon) prices have increased. So, here are a few suggestions for everyone's recent whining of price influctuations...

a) Pre-order the titles earlier from Amazon when they're usually at a lower price. Or, pre-order anyway and if the price hasn't dropped to an acceptable level, in your opinion, by the release date, just cancel.

b) For those that don't have a job, get off your butts and go get one.

c) For those that don't feel as if their current job pays enough to support their film buying habits, then get a crappier(probably) second job to help support your love of film. Or, seek out a better paying job.

d) Seek out other online retailers or brick & mortar stores that are gonna offer the same titles at better prices.

e) Be patient. Obviously, you've been putting it off this long so far, so what's the difference in waiting a little bit longer for a price drop.

CC

well I think it should be pointed out that many members were saying that the prices hadn't really gone up.
I have been watching this for weeks, and the bottom line is--
amazon prices for Criterion titles HAVE gone up for sure.
I've seen plenty of fluctuating prices, but they have still not returned to the levels of a month ago.
these look to be the new prices unfortunately.
$26.99 seems to be about the average now.

Amazon prices fluctuate regularly....... I'm not sure why this is concerning so many people......

If Barnes and Nobles, or Deep Discount, etc... offers lower prices, Amazon will probably match them...... Perhaps Amazon is keeping their "pre-release" prices higher for these due to the inelasticity of demand for Criterion titles....... after release, maybe they'll drop the price to scoop up the price-sensitive folks..... either way, they do what they do, and we buy what we buy.....

If you don't like Amazon's price, look at some other sites

I'll just keep ordering, receiving, and viewing......... it's been a great formula thus-far

"when are amazon's prices going to go down" has replaced "how long does it take to get replacement cases" as most annoying thread meme

Received my order for the complete set of replacement cases (all 9). I ordered on Feb. 15th and it arrived here on March 11th via USPS. Less than a month, not *too* bad.

I'd love that too.
But I highly doubt that if it happened, it would be done by Criterion.

I'd rather it not come to Criterion. Always found his work to be massively overrated.
