I just saw Criterions "L'avventura" DVD. This was pure beauty; especially the first part out on the sea!

Has there ever been a word on this movie to be released on Blu-ray?

With "Red Desert" just out, I think it's safe to say we won't see any Antonioni probably sometime in 2011. But I know many of us would love to see "L'avventura" or "L'eclisse" on Blu-ray but then again, we are still waiting for the third film in the trilogy "La Notte" to be released from Criterion as the Fox Lorber disc sucked. It's on sale right now via MoC for like $14 (£8.99)...

I've been going back and forth whether or not to purchase it (sale ends on July 30th UK time...which is probably today over here).

I actually did the opposite. For right now (my birthday is on the same day as the last day of the sale, so I might treat myself to a b-day present), I have kept under $100 during this sale.

After you said that, I am actually fearing what is next. Look at our future in things. We went from great t.v. to the Jersey Shore. 3D seems to be the future of movies (Please no!). What is after Facebook? I hope that is the end of social networking (excluding forums, fanpages, etc) that runs a person's life.

What's the chance of the Hopscotch CC DVD going OOP, it's a Studio Canal title. I picked it up today at B&N just to be safe. Was gonna pick up Tunes of Glory since I am a Ronald Neame fan but I've never seen it, is it worth getting? They don't have The Horses Mouth in stores though.

I wouldn't trust any of the Studio Canal titles to stick around at this point. I thought I was the only one who liked Hopscotch. It tends to get picked on by Criterion film snobs on some of the sites I've visited. I'm a big Walter Matthau fan.

Hells to the yeah, I like that it has the "squeaky clean" alternate soundtrack for those who sensative to cursing, always good for laugh... Me, personally like the classic "R" soundtrack in all it's profane glory!

I don't think Hopscotch is high on Canal's list of films to ruin.

3D will lead to nothing more than 3D porn and more crappy reality shows like Jersey Shore in 3D.

Close your eyes if you have a weak stomach. This is Jersey Shore's TV rating for the first episode of season 2 that debuted yesterday.

http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/07/30...way-more/58681

5.25 Million viewers.

I use social networking tools, but it's helpful for career networking I find. IN any case, those Jersey Shore numbers are depressing as hell.

Back to criterion. B&N Sale damages so far....

This will have to happen before the end of the social networking.

I just can't seem to divorce Kubrick's works from the man himself. His films seem to belong together on my shelves more than they belong within their respective genre or alphabetic listings. For reasons I can't explain or defend, I don't feel the same about other directors and their works. Although I equally admire Scorsese, I have no problem filing his films alphabetically. My wife hates it because she can never find anything.
That is pretty much how I do it as well. I used to keep all of my animation in a separate area as well, but the Criterions are starting to take up real estate and I've had to move them and group them either by studio (Disney, Pixar, Japanese) and/or director (Henry Selick, Adam Eliot, etc.)

Default The Seventh Seal

As someone who is the proud owner of all the Criterion BDs that have been released, I have so far very much liked and admired every one I have watched. Oddly enough, I had never seen The Seventh Seal (but am a fan of all the Bergman I've seen). Over the last two days I have tried watching it twice. The first day I made it ten minutes in and fell asleep, waking up to the BD main menu. Today, I tried rewatching it from the start and this time got to the 20-minute mark before once again nodding off. It's the strangest thing--what I've watched of it I've liked, but there's something about it that makes me drowsy (even after having a nap beforehand). Has this happened to anyone else with The Seventh Seal or might anyone have any insight into why this is happening? Like I said, I have loved all the Bergman I've seen in the past. Now I am determined to get through it in one wakeful sitting...

Nah, there has always been lowest common denominator TV and there always will be. The great TV that is on now is as good as anything that has come before it. Mad Men, Friday Night Lights, the just finished Party Down, Treme to name just a few. A couple years ago we had Arrested Development, The Wire, Deadwood, Freaks & Geeks, or across the pond there is Peep Show, The Office, Brass Eye, Alan Partridge. And these are just off the top of my head.

There is never a time where we don't have some quite frankly amazing television. It may not often pull the big numbers or last for very long but there is always great television, despite the industry's best attempts to make it feel like it is all Jersey Shore and Deal or No Deal.

Just because Armageddon was a best seller for Criterion doesn't mean Periot le Fou didn't get released for us.

I am typically pretty patient with watching new films (and I had to watch The Red Shoes twice to really appeciate it), but I had a hard time with The Seventh Seal as well.

Maybe "fantasy" movies play around with the sleep center of the brain.

I must be the only guy around who's never heard of this "Jersey Shore" show you keep talking about.

I fall asleep during films I love all the time...... doesn't matter... if I'm tired

Ordered Kind Hearts and Coronets from B&N.com, says 3-5 wait for shipping, well worth it since it's OOP.

Heck yeah! "Hopscotch" is great. I picked it up from Target a year or so ago for $20 (the Target closest to me was keeping about 4 or 5 criterion DVD titles on their shelves for a few months for some reason).

I remember watching the DVD shortly after seeing "Burn After Reading," and thought they would make a great double feature.

Also, consider me a huge Walter Matthau fan. I don't think I've ever seen a film he's been in that I didn't like.
