Let's kick this one off good!

I know a lot of us out there, myself included, use the ol netflix streaming to check out a lot of the Collection. Apparently on Sept. 22nd, the instant watch is losing 66 of them(!) It doesn't mean they are gone forever and all should still be available the old fashioned way, but I figured I would mention it in case anyone had some they wanted to knock out before then. Here's a link to an article with a complete listing of the titles.

Sad news indeed. Time to move a bunch of those up in my instant queue.

Agreed--I've seen a few movies that I scrambled over the weekend to last-minute watch suddenly re-appear again after the deal had been re-negotiated.
NFS tends to take most of their streams from third-party sources (online cable websites, StarzPlay, etc.), and the Criterion movies here seem to be from Criterion.com's own viewing streams...There's no indication that those are going away soon, or that there's been some big corporate blowup between the two parties, so it's just a wait and see whether they reappear for another year's negotiation.

The website mentions Criterion also going with PS3 and Hulu, but seems to be one truth of the stream-verse that it's all scavenger territory--NOBODY has anything exclusive.

i use my local libraries to rent Criterion titles. thankfully my city has eclectic taste and has most of Criterion's releases.

i don't believe in streaming until:
-my home has 1Gbps connection
-video streaming services that offer 20MBps 1080p services
-audio streaming lossless @least 24-bit/192kHz 7.1 capabilities, w/room to grow into 48-bit/384kHz, 22.22 headroom or more.
^all that w/pay once to buy a single title that i can transfer to unlimited playback devices mobile or otherwise.

That's what i've been doing. My library probably has all the collection and you can borrow as much as 10 at a time. The only thing I hate is that most discs are scratched.

Agreed. I have no need for Netflix as my library has them all.

Whenever people around here mention Netflix I ask: "you know we do have the library system which you've already paid for so why not take advantage?"

Because my library, while it has quite a selection, doesn't carry everything Netflix does. Plus, sometimes I get in the mood to watch something, but don't feel like running out to the library. So it's convenient to use instant streaming.

A little greedy? There's already 4...I'd rather they focused on some of the many other wonderful items in the catalog

Let's talk about what we DO need more of on CC blu-ray

-Resnais
-Malle
-Wilder
-Melville
-Welles
-Linklater
-Ozu
-Hitchcock

Any catalog release (or any release for that matter) from any of the above and Rivette would be awesome.

Yeah, since Criterion is flooded with Warhol. Plus we need real art. You know, like how Wes Anderson puts David Bowie music in his films. So hip.

Pabst (Pandora's Box)
Melville
Fuller
Imamura
Ozu
Teshigahara
MORE Ray
and yes, Warhol/Morrissey

Rivette would be cool. Also my Hopper sig.

Well, it didn't really get at me. Heck everyone should know you pick on Lou Reed not David Bowie with me. Plus, I can't take up for Bowie's acting.

Now if he says Reed's Berlin sucks, then we have a problem.
