I guess I might have to e-mail them, but has anyone else had anything similar happen? I'd really like to know if it's B&N who are being dicks, or if it's perhaps Criterion who sold out of their entire stock of some of these movies, and are waiting for more discs.

Forgive me if this has been talked about a lot before, but has anyone heard anything about getting some Herzog in the collection? Has there been any rumored titles or anything? Feels like there should be some stuff. If not, is there some reason why? Like because they can't put together enough supplements, or Herzog doesn't want to work with them?
It would be incredible if they did a Fitzcarraldo Blu and put Burden of Dreams on there, kinda like how they're doing the Apocalypse Now set with Hearts of Darkness. But really, I'd settle for anything at this point. |

I haven't seen anyone ask them on facebook for a while, so if you have an account there, you should prob leave a message. They don't reply hardly anymore, but someone on there could tell you if they ever gave a reason before. |

![]() I don't have a Facebook account either, so that's not gonna work. Guess I'll just patiently wait for word like everyone else. When you said they could be doing: "another infamous 'Director dodging' thing", what do you mean by that? Is there some sort of history of them doing that? If so, who? |

Hmmm... that's an interesting question. Unfortunately, my memory is garbage, so I'll probably end up putting movies from 2003 on there. Where could I find a list of films that were released last year? Since we're on the topic of Herzog, I loved Bad Lieutenant, pretty sure that one came out last year...

Some C fans think guys like Rivette, Herzog, and I still think Pialat (based on what they could release) is curious as to why they haven't been shown spine #'s yet. Well past due.

Here are my top 5 American Films of 09' (Still need to see Herzog's My Son, My Son........):
I really wanted to put Inglourious Basterds, but after thinking about it, I didn't. Take out all of the film's pop culture/film references, QT's Godard influences, and that wonderful soundtrack, the only thing left is that amazing bar scene. Jackie Brown is still my fav of his. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by SpiderBaby; 08-28-2010 at 06:00 AM. |

Very nice, I really like a few of those also. Although I have yet to see "Fighting" (actually wasn't planning on it either, but based on your recommendation, I'll def check it out), or "Two Lovers" (Which I did want to see, but haven't gotten around to it). Overall, 2009 felt like somewhat of a down year based on the list I was looking at. Here goes (in no particular order):
- Bad Lieutenant: POCNO (With you on that one. Fun, awesome, ballsy, not much more you can ask for) - The Informant (Even though I like Soderbergh, I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. Had a wit and humor that I really liked, and was a lot darker than I expected. Matt Damon was incredible.) - Big Fan (The Patton Oswalt movie. Being somewhat of a sports junkie (basketball mostly), I really liked this film. It was creepy and funny, and really tackled sports fandom in an interesting way.) - Fantastic Mr. Fox (Admittedly, I am a fan of Wes Anderson, even though I know he doesn't get much love in these parts. I thought this was just a near perfect melding of style, story and that great stop motion animation. It worked wonderfully imo) - Where the Wild Things Are (I just really enjoyed this film. I loved the book as a youngster, which probably is one of the main reasons I liked it so much. It just hit all the right notes, really well done.) Honorable mentions: The Girlfriend Experience, A Serious Man, The Road, Moon, Coraline, World's Greatest Dad, Adventureland |

Nice list. Big Fan is something I totally forgot about ever since I saw the trailer. I'll be giving it a rent soon. I'm not a huge Wes Anderson fan, but I do own his films. So I'll watch Mr. Fox whenever a redbox around me has it.
![]() And crap, Moon. Love that film too. But I would say 6th on my list if I went 10. ![]() Oh, and the Fighting recommendation. The film isn't some "art piece" (as I joked about Channing's mumbling acting style) but more of my interest in the gritty New York and a fan of Paul Morrissey's films in which the legend "Little Joe" acted in (where I got my comparison of Joe and Channing). Which Channing is a guy who can't act his way out of a paper bag but is casted based off looks, just like Joe. It's a fun comparison. So if you seen any Paul Morrissey films to get the comparison or like the director of Fighting, Dito Montiel's other film A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, then you might enjoy this. The story is kind of like a Paul Morrissey film too. Where in Paul Morrissey's Flesh, Joe has to sell his body in sex. In Fighting, Channing has to sell his body in fighting (Hollywood it up a bit).
