For example: Pulp Fiction...I'd put an open briefcase facing away fromt he viewer with a glow coming from within
Dennis Hopper's The Last Movie

cartoon: Show Hollywood giving Dennis Hopper money to make another Easy Rider, but he said F you and made an art film, which helped pushed him out of Hollywood at the time.

GOOD FOR YOU, my friend! I had the same feeling of a large door of opportunity opening when I bought my region free player as well.

It is strictly a "Region A" player, or is it a "Region Free" player? Which make/model did you purchase?

In either case...ENJOY!

Any suggestions? Well looking at the 2 you first bought, let me mix them.

Take someone that is hip in pop culture and very into the look of his films in Anderson and mix it with someone as intelligent of a director as Bergman and you get:

Well your prob mixing in some other stuff, but you get the point.

BRAVO! THAT is why I am convinced that both my wife and myself are drawn to Wes Anderson films. Even "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" reeks of family dysfunctionality and Anderson didn't even write the original text.

I agree, if they would have had access to the collection, these things may have never happened. Who would want to go out and do those dastardly deeds had they seen life through the eyes of those teens in Salo. Or would have thought twice about the person next to them if they had seen In the Realm of the Senses. CC, I think we are on to something here.

BTW CG, put my name down for Diabolique. That is another classic to add..

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Rashomon
Ran
Throne of Blood
The Hidden Fortress
Harakiri
The Human Condition

You said no runner-ups...... so my final answer will be "Spartacus" simply because I've seen the current BD release of it...... I had it ordered, and canceled after initial reviews...... then I rented it, and was glad I did.....

My initial thought was "Sid and Nancy" however.

I woke up around noon today and jumped on Criterion's website thinking today was the 15th and the releases were announced. I'm on vacation so I lose track of days.

Out of the ones you have listed: Elevator to the Gallows....

Not listed, I would LOVE to upgrade my DVD copy of Equinox. I'm not a criterion completest, but I do enjoy several select films from them.

On a side note...

TFO is presenting Seven Samurai tomorrow night in HD here in Montreal at 9 pm. Anyone in Montreal it would be channel 694 with Videotron. They are in their Kurosawa festival for his 100th birthday, this will be week number 4 now. I do not know how many weeks it wil lgo on. They had Stray Dog last Friday, was wonderful to watch it.

All Criterion flicks are about $26-$27 each shipped...... not bad for those who are looking for some "old" ones

EDIT: Breathless for $24 Godard is cheap throw away material to most people I guess

I would want it, but since I already own the region free Australian Blu-ray, I'll be passing on the Criterion release. The Criterion may get more extras, but I'm happy enough with the Aussie BD.

Beauty and the Beast (Cocteau) is a title I'd like to see them release. My DVD states it is from a "new high definition digital master".

as for non-rereleases I just want some more Brian De Palma in the collection, namely Blow Out and Body Double

Harakiri, Naked, and Woman in the Dunes would be my top 3.
Non-rereleases: Los Olvidados & Johnny Guitar.

I watched the Darjeeling Limited today. That film gets better and better on repeated.

wow, they really jacked up the yellow on this....All three leads have extremely yellow skin in the film. Looks really unnatural, but I'm sure that's what Wes Anderson intended, right?
