There are places where you can buy empty Scanavo cases. I'm rather certain that Criterion does not sell them, but surely it wouldn't be too terribly hard to find them somewhere.

No (yes). They don't send replacement cases. However. You can ask for a case for any of the original nine titles (Bottle Rocket, Man Who Fell To Earth, etc) and they will send you a case with artwork.

They may have discontinued this service. But it existed until recently. Email store@criterion.com and ask them if you can get a replacement for your Bottle Rocket digipack.

You actually can e-mail Criterion, mulvaney@criterion.com, the man's name is Jon Mulvaney. Let him know what happened and they will usually get back to you and send out a replacement case. They do not sell the blu-ray Scanavo cases anywhere, as they are exclusive to CC. They do sell the dvd cases online.

Anything from Tarr would be terrific.

Werckmeister Harmonies is definitely not a blind buy film as many people may not make it through the first 10 minutes (Tarr uses LONG takes).

Picked up BREATHLESS last night. I decided that getting these for $14.42 a piece is too good to pass on. I'm going back to get DAYS OF HEAVEN, M and THE 400 BLOWS.

What are your opinions on VIVRE SA VIE? I've never seen that as well and I love Godard.

I think it's better than "Breathless"

Love both, but totally agree. The first time I saw Vivre Sa Vie, I was literally floored and crushed simultaneously.

That said, I think Une femme est une femme is my favorite of his FNW films.

I'm going to get three more CC BD's with my three 25% off coupons. Which of these three (DAYS OF HEAVEN, M and THE 400 BLOWS) should I replace VIVRE SA VIE with?

Well CC did release "Life of Brian" on DVD...this might be the next step.

If they are going to do a Python FILM (agreed that doing the TV series would not make sense) and they could get the rights to the BD release, then The Holy Grail would be my choice.

My least favorite (while still loving it) from that list would be The 400 Blows. I love M and I'm a huge, huge Terry Malick fanboy. I think Days of Heaven is the most beautifully shot film of all-time.

Plus, if you drop The 400 Blows off, you'll have a 3 films, all from different eras and places in the world. Not that there is ever too much French New Wave, but diversity is always a good thing, too.

Longer than Haneke?

Never seen any Tarr, held off the DVDs for reasons already mentioned.

RIP Uncle Fester...
No love for "The Gold Rush"?

Thanks for the help. M might not have been there last night. If that is the case my decision on which three to get will be much easier.

No problem. Haha, ya, that would make it easier. I have no self-control and hate making decisions like that, so I would end up getting all 4.

I'm glad I only have three 25% coupons left, otherwise I would probably get all four.

I'm hoping that M is there because I've been meaning to see it for so long.
