I had it in my wish list there for a long time and they never got a copy. then the website got redone a while back and alot of things they hadnt had stock of used for a long time were taken off. there wasnt even a listing for it on the site for the past few months.

I just happened to check on monday night and saw it listed. ordered it as fast as I could and it arrived today.

Oh Lord...just spent about $160 total on 8 Criterions via Amazon/Deep Discount...it's a sickness...a wonderful wonderful sickness...though I feel I shouldn't pass up on the deals when they come up...right?

Damn you enablers!

I'd like to thank you for letting me know I pulled the trigger a few days early on my last order
It's no biggie though - I just paid a couple of $'s more for a couple I was getting.
In fact, I really only put my last order in to get the Casablanca box-set. The beauty of the Citizen Kane transfer sold me on upgrading my Casablanca.

Moment of Truth--$15.99 at amazon.
lowest price I have ever seen for a Criterion bd on amazon.
(it's actually Werehouse Deals--fulfilled by amazon)
still a pretty amazing price. That title must be really selling like hotcakes.

Don't get too excited. It's one of Criterion's barebones releases with the list price of 30 dollars. So it's less than 50% discount.

Beauty and the Beast was $11.99 last November, now that was a great deal.

Honestly, I thought you were being a troll with your first comment.
I know some early Criterion DVDs had a bad reputation (Branded to Kill and Tokyo Drifter were a bit notorious), but some are also very good. I have Le Samouraï and Touchez pas au grisbi and some others and they're all pretty good. I'm not sure I even need to upgrade them.
Most of the Criterion blu-rays have been outstanding.
Understood, I was an early adopter of a lot of their early release titles, and I really felt burned. To me it's like this, if I go to a restaurant and recieve bad service I don't rage on them, I just do not return. Same with retailers and other such places. It was a long time ago, I luckily got my money back from Criterion in a few cases, but I don't even remember all the titles I was just very upset that I paid so much for something that was so buzzed. I walked away from anything with their name on it. I had heard about a lot of the blu-rays being of exceptional qaulity, and being that this is a forum I said to myself, Hey let's ask how the blurays stand up since I have no experience with them and wanted word of mouth and not just advert based info. A lot of friends of mine have been really stunned when I said I don't purchase CC titles anymore after my experiences. I felt like I had been duped by marketing and I don't like that. At the time you have to realize I was in high school and my hard earned cash was dropped on titles that were much more then regular pricing because it was supposed to be that much better. I do admit that holding back on their product for this long given the improving tech out there was my fault alone, but me being curious and asking how quality is, is not a reason to assume I am just some jack ass trying to get a rise out of people. Esp given that fact that more then just a few people are saying oh ya some of their releases were notorious for that early on...

And then some responders acting like since it is on blu-ray that clearly it must be infallable quality... give me a break.

I do apologize for loosing it on whoever that was, but I'm not going to swallow your shit like that. So flowers, puppies, rainbows, and hugs or whatever here's a red ball and a chocolate bar

The Fountain already had a decent BD release from my understanding (don't know as I'm not an Aronofsky fan). At least Le Samourai, the one people complain about the most is moving up the list.

Only a few more weeks to announcements too. We'll have to see if my current wishlist of 9 top wants for the July sale is going to grow. I'm slowly but surely starting to cut down my wishlist. I think I might be able to finish the top and mid priority titles by Christmas, if B&N does end up doing a November sale after all, as there are rumours to the contrary.

Now that my Criterion Wishlist is down to only 6 (9) titles including the David Lean Boxset, ill try and hold off until the sale for them and the subsequently released titles between now and the sale.

Thanks for that!! I finally got my Last Temptation ($14.99) order from DD last week. Hopefully, this won't be a backordered title!

The continuing wish to see The Fountain in the Criterion Collection is truly baffling. There are good blu-rays available in the US and the UK.

I haven't seen the movie so I can only guess at the logic behind the suggestion. The only thing I can think of that would be appealing is if someone (doesn't have to be Criterion) would release the alternate version that Aronofsky has mentioned at times. Perhaps that is what the voters are hoping for.

July can't come soon enough. I picked (6) Criterions for the inevitable Barnes & Noble sale. Hopefully when all is said and done I'll be able to get those six for around $68 (includes cost of the gift card sold) even if I have to make multiple trips.

I figure I'll buy them in groups of two and hopefully there will be 20% member and 15% non-member coupons. Plus my membership discount and the $50 worth of gift cards for $25 I snagged for being a Verizon member.

1. Harold and Maude
2. The Gold Rush
3. Being John Malkovich
4. The 39 Steps
5. Godzilla
6. A Night to Remember

While I was at B&N yesterday using one of my Spring Disapointment coupons (picked up Letter Never Sent for $20 with a 20% off coup.), my cashier buddy told me there would most likely be a Buy Two Get One sale in June, this time including CDs. Hopefully, the July sale will follow as it has the last few years!

I'd spend almost $32 more by buying the six titles during a "Buy 2, Get 1" free deal after making two transactions in groups of threes using a 20% member, 15% non-member coupons, my 10% membership discount, and the gift cards.

You know me, I do all the math out,

It's worth waiting a month more to save almost $32.
