Apparently The Sting on Blu-ray is impossible to find in New England, so I'm settling for 3 new Criterions from B&N instead, as they're about the same price as the 50% off sale, since I'm having relatives grab the titles instore. 400 Blows, Le cercle rouge, and the Darjeeling Limited will be in my possession this time next week, along with, hopefully, Fanny and Alexander, Harold and Maude, and Shallow Grave. I might have some today, haven't got the mail yet. Yellow Submarine was well worth the wait, and the screencaps kerfluffle was unfounded.

Sunday, Bloody Sunday has been a long time coming. It was even in last year's New Years drawing.

Maybe we'll also get the long awaited Wild Strawberries soon.

I thought it was concluded that the calendar on last year's drawing was for People on Sunday and le Cercle Rouge

I think they will. It seems they have already authored a HD transfer because it is available on Demand in HD with AT&T's Criterion page. I'm actually surprised it hasn't been released on disc already.

I've noticed it and I hate it when the adhesive is on the spine of the case. Criterion seems to have 2 types of plastic wrappers, the type you describe and a less rigid plastic wrapper.

I emailed Criterion on the issue... only because they even sell the cases on their site store... so they are probably aware how picky some of their Criterion consumers are. FOX was notorious for this kind of spine clue down their DVD cases back when I bought DVDs that much.

I'm very happy to report that I am now the owner of my very first Criterion bluray ... actually 3 of them. I received the package in the mail today from Deep Discount via their 25% off sale. For what it's worth, the titles are:
"Harold and Maude", "A Night to Remember" and "Seven Samurai".

I haven't opened them yet. I hope to get to them very soon, but there's a lot of competition for what's next in line to go into the bluray player. I suppose that's a good thing!

Wouldn't it be great if we got twin filmmaker theme releases for John Schlesinger? Pairing up Sunday, Bloody Sunday with either Day of the Locust, Billy Liar, Marathon Man or Darling?

Wasn't there talk of a Criterion Marathon Man?

A Criterion edition of Darling would be amazing!

Any of the titles would be great but Darling could look great in HD

Yes, I'd love to see Criterion - anyone with merit - handle The Day of the Locust on blu. That is one of my top favorite books, and I love the fact that the film doesn't translate the text so literally and makes its own monster of it.

I admit that it'd probably fall into the Olive domain though...which is fine by me.

Darling and Billy Liar I would be interested in as well; I haven't seen either, but I look forward to based on rep [they both place prominently in Top 100 British films lists I've been perusing recently, that particular cinema being my most recent marathon venture]. I have both (DVDs) on standby in various online shopping carts and wishlists.

Sunday, Bloody Sunday? Finally! Hopefully, this means other titles from rumored MGM 10 movie deal will follow soon.
Especially,Red River and Thief

Ten MGM Films Likely To Find A Home In The Criterion Collection

Btw,pairing it with Marathon Man (another rumoured title) would be perfect

That's an interesting article. I have a lot of hope for Koyaanisqatsi. I'd buy that up in a second and I don't think I've ever seen any special features on it.
