Well, folks, you can go with UK Blu of Odd Man Out https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Odd-M...Blu-ray/40414/ Apparently, looks very good.

Btw,there are some very strong indications about Ministry of Fear being released by Criterion next year.Noir on Blu : the more the better!

Ditto oildude. I think I might have lucked out a bit because mine seems to have been printed somewhere in between both extremes shown here...I kind of like it that way, actually.

Getting bored of repeating all the same titles we know are coming eventually, so here are a few shots in the dark:

Upgrades:

Eisenstein: The Sound Years Box Set
Crazed Fruit
The Pornographers

New Spines:

A City of Sadness
Je t'aime, je t'aime
Death by Hanging

Eclipse:

Charlie Chaplin's Short Films

Borrowed the 2002 DVD, 1st printing, of "Children of the Gods." The B&W contrast is good, even, perhaps unrealistically even throughout (Did it have the "Criterion Treatment?"). It's a very good movie with a lot of replay potential.

Added: I am comparing the DVD's contrast to the Blu-ray's contrast at DVD Beaver's review/comparison, where the blu-ray's contrast looks poor (and the DVD's decent).

Double Indemnity is looking better and better (even though there hasn't even been a whiff of a hinted clue). It's pretty clear Universal won't be releasing it this year so...

I'm back on my Husbands kick (though now that I think about it I can't remember if I ever got off it).

And just to stay really repetitive Drunken Angel and In a Lonely Place.

Oh, and wild-ass wishlist entries - The Hunger and/or The Lair of the White Worm. And Charley Varrick (which I always have to look up because I always type Charlie first).

And some pie. I like pie.

My wild guess that probably will never happen but I have to put it out there... Looking For Mr. Goodbar. I would like a few upgrades though.

Yeah, I've had that in my cart for a little while.
There's also quite a few Masters of Cinema blu-rays to get soon.
And now that it looks like Criterion won't be releasing anymore Tati's, I'll probably get the BFI blu-rays.

I saw Death by Hanging at university so many years ago.
Absolutely loved it
Like so many Oshima films, it's not for all tastes, but it would certainly be an interesting blu-ray.
Criterion haven't released this title before, so I'm not sure they would have the rights to it. In fact, I don't think it was ever released in the US.

I've seen an Edward Yang film. I assume that makes me a bad person
I don't see much talk here about Yi Yi and at close to 3 hours I was a little reluctant to blind-buy it. Any thoughts on this film or his others?

World Cinema Foundation:
Ki-young Kim's The Housemaid is one OF THE BEST FILMS I'VE EVER SEEN.

Ahmed El Maanouni's Trances is one OF THE BEST FILMS I'VE EVER SEEN.

Bring it on!

As far as predictions for tomorrow, HiDef versions of Andrei Rublev and a Criterion Picnic at Hanging Rock are long overdue.

Part of me did not want to swap out Marienbad. That cardboard case is actually pretty nice, and its cover/spine did not transfer well to the replacement cover. And the gigantic booklet might be under a bit too much stress in the plastic case.
The only bluray that I left in its original cardboard case in The Last Metro because of the holes in the cover which give the effect of burning behind the curtain, and the plastic case is unable to do this.

Be nice

I may hit on 1 of these predictions if I'm lucky:
  • Picnic at Hanging Rock
  • Wenders Road set
  • L’eclisse
  • The Soft Skin
  • Jules et Jim
  • Badlands
