It's a DVD not a Blu-ray. Unfortunately it was part of a buy 2 get the 3rd free promo at Amazon, so I can't cancel for a refund because then I'd lose my promo discount. I have to return it and hope the replacement they ship is a proper Blu-ray.

Maybe not tourettes but I once remember seeing someone with it who goes out of their way to re-organize objects... or maybe that's not tourettes and just OCD.

I have OCD so seeing that clutter would drive me crazy. I enjoy making order out of chaos.

In arguably the best John Carpenter movie that Carpenter never directed, an insurance salesman is aided by a telephone repairman (played by Ray "Who you gonna call, Ghostbusters!" Parker Jr. in a rare acting appearance) in a desperate attempt to steer clear of a vicious street gang in a crumbling New York tenement. The gang, called "The Vampires", dresses all in black, holds candle-lit meetings and takes orders from a young Tony Todd as "The Count". In their flight they call upon various denizens of the apartment high-rise for help, most notably a grizzled, wheelchair-bound Jan-Michael Vincent who's kept himself armed to the teeth for just such an occasion.

It was no doubt an influence on the two movies you just referenced and is among my most-wanted films on Blu-ray. You can check it out on YouTube if you're curious.
I've never heard of it, so thanks for the tip.

I found a nice 720p version of it on YouTube. Should be the first result.

You should suggest it to Kino. Seems like the kind of thing they'd put out.

If I saw the Criterion display look like that at my local B&N, I'd probably take a photo of it with my phone, go to the customer service desk, and say, "If you have any desire to actually sell any of these discs, you might want to organize that display. Alternatively, I'll be happy to do it for you if you agree to let me have x number of them for my trouble."

Please let me know what you think!

And myself and others have brought it up to Kino on multiple occasions...they've tried, but it's languishing in rights hell at the moment

Folks with Tourette's do have a very high level of OCD as well -- 60% or more have at least some level.

I'm going to make a very strong guess that a tiny fraction of the forum members here have any version of OCD.

OTOH, an extremely high proportion have an insufferable level of Anal Retentive traits one of which of course is the irritating tendency to nitpick and correct others misuse of terminology.

A quick difference in this specific situation

The OCD customer would likely organize it, then reorganize it by size/ht/alphabet, then get extremely agitated at the Spiders which make the shelves uneven, and the discs not sit straight, then do it again until realizing it's impossible and feel awful that they wasted so much time without even knowing why and not accomplishing anything and slink away embarrassed.

The AR person would organize it the way they wanted it to look (b/c it's obviously superior) regardless of whether BN wanted it organized by some other criteria, then run get the manager and employee and let them know how great the place is now set up demanding to be praised for their superior abilities and intellect. Then they'd walk out of the store either feeling quite superior or angry at those inferior dolts/idiots who work at BN for not praising or rewarding him enough and run to an internet forum to ANNOUNCE his greatness and diminish all Retail Employees as Low IQ human rot for being so clueless.

Hopefully next year. I know The Man Who Wasn't There is coming but I'd love even more Coens stuff in the collection.

You are probably right that the majority of members here don't actually have legitimate OCD.

However, I want to point out - as I'm sure you already know - that having OCD doesn't automatically mean you want to organize everything, hate clutter, etc. It comes in many forms.

Your description of AR is probably accurate for at least a certain section of the populace here.

Haven't heard anything, but would love for this to happen. You can always hit up Criterion's suggestion e-mail. If there is a demand, it could help it getting a release.

Honestly, there is no excuse for a store that charges normal price to look like that. None.
Granted, those stupid alarms (whoever designed them? Could they be any bulkier and make the arranging of the cases any more impossible??) don't help but that just looks like poo.

Maybe this picture was taken after the sale and nobody from B&N had time to rearrange it but it looks absolutely unprofessional.

Namuhana makes it sound like every store looks like that, and it's not the case.
