I'll stick with store bought, until that becomes a thing of the past. The big big box sets (olympics, bergman, varda, presumably fellini) usually amazon or deep discount, if they leave the outer cardboard protective box in place (and if it's still available), are usually no-brainers (b&n the one time I tried didn't have it, and no surprise the big big box set arrived with big old corner dent). And yeah, I know, everybody else never has any such problems.... |

I don’t mind shared extras, gives more people a chance to see it, so long as it isn’t the only supplement on there. I definitely own some extras two or three times. But if it is the only extra I’m more likely to buy one release over another, which can be frustrating. |

I've pretty much given up hope on Criterion ever releasing another Kurosawa movie. I'm really annoyed at them, it's been years now since Dreams. You'd think we'd get at least one movie once in a while.
![]() I'm afraid that they are just waiting to release one of those super big, ugly and expensive box sets, which I have no intention of buying (i'm very happy with my regular blu ray). At the very least, give us Stray Dog, Criterion, pretty please? As a Kurosawa fan, these last few years have been very disappointing. |

Mandabi, first film made in wolf language?--Not interested.
Man Push Cart--I see homeless men pushing carts every time I go on errands around my neighborhood--Not interested. Chop Shop--I have already seen enough shops getting chopped during the riots--Not interested. I may go for Smooth Talk and The Parallax View. |

The release announcement today of Man Push Cart and Chop Shop got me thinking about how many times has Criterion released two separate (consecutive) spines by the same director/subject in the same month?
I came up with these (in no particular order)... Crumb and Louie Bluie (Terry Zwigoff) Black Moon and Zazie dans le métro (Louis Malle) Sweet Movie and WR: Mysteries of the Organism (Dušan Makavejev) Jubal and 3:10 to Yuma (Delmer Daves) Charulata and The Big City (Satyajit Ray) Gray's Anatomy and And Everything Is Going Fine (Steven Soderbergh/Spalding Gray) L’humanité and La vie de Jésus (Bruno Dumont) Branded to Kill and Tokyo Drifter (Seijun Suzuki) Westfront 1918 and Kameradschaft (G. W. Pabst) I'm not including combined films released under a single spine (such as The Shooting/Ride In The Whirlwind or the Lady Snowblood films) |
