I need an upgrade to the Dragon Dynasty DVDs of one for Woo. Also been holding off on Kurosawa purchases in hopes of a box set.

Big YES on John Woo! At least upgrades of The Killer and Hard Boiled, since the Criterion DVDs have been OOP for a long time I think.

As a complete newcomer to Wong Kar-wai's work, I was very much looking forward to this collection but, the revisionism and many people's dissatisfaction with how these films will look now has me worried. Can anyone confirm if on The Criterion Channel the transfers for Fallen Angels, Happy Together and Chungking Express are the originals? If so, I'll certainly be adding those to my queue sooner than later to appreciate them in their untouched presentations.

I couldn't stand Happy Together (their personalities annoyed me and stuff) so I couldn't get through that but since its in the boxset I will definitely give it another chance. Still haven't seen maybe 2 others of his but Chunking Express is one of my favorite Criterions.

Akira Kurosawa will happen, it's just a matter of when. John Woo is wishful thinking since they probably have Hardboiled and The Killer. Masaki Kobayashi would also be nice and I can see a Martin Scorsese one happening at some point. If they were to release a Hideo Gosha boxset set, well, then I would never bad mouth Criterion ever again. |

Messaged Criterion about if the World of Wong Kar Wai was going to be region A/B.....
"Hi, Thanks for reaching out! Due to licensing restrictions, the discs available on Criterion.com are Region 1 (DVD) and Region A (Blu-Ray), limited to shipping within the US and Canada. THE WORLD OF WONG KAR WAI on Criterion.com will only be available as a Region A Blu-Ray. The good news is that a Region B version of the set will be available in the UK April 2021." |

I ended up rewatching Fantastic Planet again and enjoyed it the 2nd time around. I guess I was just in the bad or wrong mood the first time. It's certainly interesting and grew on me.
Up next, I watched Silence of the Lambs for the first time. It was very well made and I enjoyed it but it felt like I had already seen the movie. The movie has such a weight and hype around it that it was somewhat hard to get lost into the story. Seeing it when it originally came out must have been pretty special but now it's like watching the Exorcist for the first time and expecting it to be the scariest movie ever made. Still, I loved the ending when [Show spoiler] Several more blind buys to watch - Barry Lyndon, Blue Velvet, Dr. Strangelove, Elephant Man, Hidden Fortress, House, Ikiru, Innocents, Irishman, Kwaidan, Last Temptation of Christ, Police Story, Solaris, Stalker and Watership Down. |

Ordered the WKW set from Criterion. $140+tax is a pretty good price for me. I also second those hoping for a John Woo set, after Kurosawa that would be the next best thing.

The Chan films with the Janus logos that were on the Channel suggest a Jackie Chan release of some kind too?
