Anybody have any idea why my Amazon.com shipping costs just went up? I just ordered Suspiria 4K 4 days ago and shipping was $6,48 like it has always been but today it said 11,01€ which I guess is the $14,99 that is mentioned on their info about global shipping rates to Europe. So what happened to the 6,48 that it has always been and why can't I find any information about this anywhere?

Either way, nobody expected Heat. Most us of thought Disney was done with Theron family Fox titles. As for the Mirror days after their announcement Janus reveals the restoration. I think it’s a safe bet they have a credible source they are using.

As I mention in the Mirror thread, a few weeks back Seán Martin posted a pic from a doc he is working on for it for Criterion on his Instagram account.

It seems like they know someone in the industry. He's not going to just throw out random titles and if those titles don't happen their cred is gone. So, no, it's not about "safe bets". It just comes down to what their insider is telling them.
Like I said prior, I don’t know what credibility Geek Gab has as I’ve never looked into it or look to him/her for information like apparently a number of people do. But I know a number of people on this site have questioned Geek Gab’s credibility & I believe some people have even pointed to things Geek Gab has claimed that have been inaccurate or just wrong.

Furthermore, my observation on Geek Gab claiming Mank and Da 5 Bloods going to Criterion isn’t me saying Geek Gab is just randomly picking but being calculated in his approach in picking of his/her claims in particular in this matter because of Criterion’s history with the associates with said titles hence for my term “safe bets”.

I think from the little amount of info I’ve seen, it’s questionable to say if Geek Gab has an actual insider source or not.

They could be frauds, and if they are we'll know soon enough. Apparently someone on reddit mentioned Heat was coming, but not sure where those people got their information. They haven't been wrong about anything, but there is only so far they can go if they really fakes.

Giuseppe Rotunno RIP

He has a great career. I first discovered him through his work on All That Jazz. But his work with Visconti and Fellini is fantastic. Especially The Leopard!

They should tell you the mystery boxset and then we'd know one way or another.

Haha. They ignored me when I sent them a personal message. Next time I'll ask them during their Q&A if they can give us a hint. When I asked them to give me a hint on who is releasing Dawn of the Dead in the US, they said they have already been leaving bread crumbs to that answer, so maybe that's the boxset they were talking about.

FYI - Amazon.com has a limited-time 3 for 2 promo that includes quite a few Criterion titles - including some box sets. I didn't delve too deeply, but looks like it could mean greater than 50% savings overall, depending on the mix of titles.

I bought the Lone Wolf and Cub and America Lost and Found box sets along with Arrow's new Shohei Imamura box set. Really happy with these deals, all under $50 apiece. Had been on the fence about these Criterion releases at the usual sale price.

God Hiroshima Mon Amour is so damn good.

I hadn’t seen it in at least three years...I was starting to think that maybe it never really happened...maybe it was all a dream...maybe I didn’t really love it the way I thought I did.

But it’s just so damn good.

A film like this can change you.

...if only for a moment.

The silhouette on the Parallax View artwork doesn't even look like Mr. Warren Beatty. So disappointing.

An update/PSA on this, from Criterion:

"There was a recent error where accounts were duplicated when customers attempt a password reset."

I had forgot my password and reset it and it created an empty, duplicate account. Thankfully support easily fixed the problem and nothing was lost.

What date are you guys thinking for the flash sale? It’s typically the date of a new release so my assumption is Feb 23rd is most likely since it’s the day Chop Shop, Man Push Cart, and Smooth Talk all come out that day. But who knows. Any thoughts?

Well, it was the 23rd in 2016.

2020 - 25th Feb
2019 - 5th Mar
2018 - 13th Feb
2017 - 28th Feb
2016 - 23rd Feb

Just as long as it happens...

This 15th is Presidents Day.

Will Criterion be delaying their announcements until the next day?

That, or it'll be on Monday, or they'll do it this Friday, or even Saturday.

There's no knowing with this company.

They like the 15th for announcements and Tuesdays for sales, but they're not wedded to them.

In all seriousness, though, the delay a few months ago around Moonstruck tells me that whether they do it early or not because of the 15th falling on a holiday/weekend tends to be about them having everything ready or not based on internal discussions that we'll never see.

I saw the earlier post about 3-for-2 boxed sets... but does anyone know when the next regularly-scheduled "big" sale is expected? I honestly can't remember when they occur, even though I take note every single time. I think the next one might be in May?

I recently rewatched Pather Panchali on the Criterion Channel and then saw the other two Apu movies for the first time... and now I have to have them on my shelf. Hoping someone here will say something like: "actually, the next big Criterion sale is due mid-February".
