Ordering systems that must handle 7000 orders per hour and "a small boutique label" are an oxymoron. Even with Amazon EC2 Elastic Computing, available web frameworks, and multi-threaded multi-core transaction processing systems, it's not a slam dunk.

They have both Arsenic AND Bringing Up Baby on the channel. Need discs for both.

One of the 10 or so that I have.

I just emailed Criterion about my order which is still "Being Packed For Shipment" more than 48 hours after being placed; Bamboozled is still in stock but The Irishman & Moonstruck are both now on backorder.

BTW, next flash sale you Canadians might want to check out Unobstructed View first. They participated in this flash sale & were mentioned at the bottom of all of Criterion's emails about it; they ship from Toronto (though by Canada Post) so Canadians won't have any DHL issues ordering from there. (They won't ship Criterion titles to the States, apparently due to their unique relationship with Criterion; otherwise they do ship here, though they don't say how the pandemic has affected those orders.)

Besides, as I told another commenter earlier the issue isn't Criterion's own size & complexity; it's the size & complexity of the warehouse that ships Criterion's orders (Alliance Entertainment).

It cracks me up that we expect every online retailer to be Amazon or Walmart.

Real-time inventory updating, same day packing and shipment, next day delivery...we have truly been spoiled by modern e-commerce.

(edit: my order is out for delivery today, too! lol)

I just got a reply from Criterion. They do have stock "designated" for my order despite the current backorder status; I should have a tracking number either today or at the latest Monday.

Picked up The Hit on Amazon, I had left it off of my wishlist on criterion and it's a blind buy I'm very interested in.

Got my shipped e-mail from Criterion. Now I just have to wait for USPS's website to update since it only says the label has been created.

There's so many possible ways that warehouse could sell out of a title that it would be a close to impossible task to track all the possible ordering sources in real-time just to avoid backorders. Perhaps the bulk of Criterion orders this week came in during the flash sale, but definitely not all of them.
i remember getting Alliance from some Amazon sellers out of georgia. it's a waiting game though i'm not too far from KY so i should get it soon but my mail is ridiculous here. always waiting for something it seems.

Got all 5 of mine in a nice little box with a single plastic bubble to protect them from movement. Everything was in perfect condition except for the booklet to The 39 Steps that was inserted wrong at assembly and has a slight bent in it now. Not nearly enough to complain about.

I'm looking forward to July when I can finish all of my potential DVD to Blu-ray Criterion upgrades (except for Kurosawa, that sets a-comin', I know it) in one fell swoop.

I really wonder why Criterion has stopped releasing Japanese film. When they entered the DVD market, we would almost get a Japanese title every other month. We are almost going two years since they have released a new title or even upgraded an older Japanese title.

The Godzilla set came out Fall 2019, so I’d say a little over a year. I’m still hoping we’ll get Rodan and War of the Gargantuas. And a Kurosawa set.

Yeah, I think the Godzilla set was the last thing they released from Japan, which is a shame. The insane part is that they have the rights to hundreds of Japanese films with many have HD masters. I'm sure samurai films would sell much better than a lot of their current releases.

I just recently requested a bunch of Japanese films (including Kinoshita and Naruse) from 'Mulvaney'. Guaranteed to accomplish nothing I'm sure, but at least I can pretend I'm helping.
