Last year's release of Tokyo Olympiad was the last Japanese title (and the only Japanese film released in 2020.) I don't know if the Japanese licensors are being screwy or what, but the lack of Japanese films is a bummer.

Some consolation for Japanese film fans yesterday, with Arrow's announcement of Giants and Toys.

A blind buy I'm very much looking forward to picking up.

With Criterion I'm not sure how much that really works, but I guess it couldn't hurt. I send them requests every so often and outside of Kagemusha a request for DVD nearly 20 years ago, almost nothing I've ever requested has seen fruition.

While it did have new features, I didn't really even consider that a new release as it was part of the boxset in 2017. I know Criterion had a hard time with Toho over the Godzilla releases, so that might be an issue. Still, the other Japanese studios seem a lot more workable. Outside of Toho, most of the films Criterion has are with Shochiku, but they haven't released much from them recently either. Somewhat strange.

Yeah, this is a good one. If it wasn't for Arrow, the Japanese output would be at an all time low. Thankfully, there are plenty more Japanese films coming from them.

My purchase from the Flash Sale is out for delivery right now. I'm adding Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story, Parasite, Minding the Gap, Matewan, The Kennedy Films of Robert Drew & Associates, and Wildlife to my collection. All are blind buys with the exception of Rolling Thunder and Parasite.

My flash sale order is "in transit" should be here Monday. My local USPS regional facility has been holding stuff for days at a time now since about July, unfortunately.

Floating Weeds is listed on the Janus website as Blu-ray, eventually it will get a physical release.

That will be nice once it finally happens. Just ordered Tokyo Story with the last sale, so more Ozu would be nice.

I'm actually pretty shocked they haven't upgraded The Human Condition films yet.

Still no movement on either of my orders.
The one with 7 out of 9 on backorder I'm not surprised with, but I'm not sure what's going on with the other order. It changed to being prepared for shipment & I was charged on Wednesday but no update since.

Arrived today. I was a bit nervous about Dekalog arriving undamaged since it's a big thick cardboard set, but luckily it arrived in 100% pristine condition.

I came home from work last night and found the box for my order sitting outside on a patch of ice. Luckily everything was in pristine condition. I was most worried about the two boxed sets I ordered.
