Hmmm....

Well, the last Pasolini film without a blu ray in the world is "Mamma Roma", and I'd always hoped that we'd see a Criterion BD upgrade someday. Now, it seems, it's DVD may have quietly gone OOP.

It has been unavailable on Criterion's site for a good little while, now, and I see used copies now going through third party sellers on Amazon for like 50-60 dollars.

I fortunately have the Criterion DVD package, already. It is a lovely 2 disc DVD set, with the film and some nice supplements, including Pasolini's short, "La Ricotta", with Orson Welles.

But I'd always hoped for an eventual blu ray upgrade.

You guys may think that DigiPacks are bad, but nothing is as bad as The Princess Bride packaging.

I messaged Jon Mulvaney about the chances of Criterion re-issuing it in a regular package, but he said they are going to continue with their current one.

I think The Princess Bride packaging is sick. It’s cool that it’s a one off, and totally fits with the film. I wouldn’t want it for a bunch of releases, but I love that it’s unique to The Princess Bride

The Princess Bride is pretty much the only non-regular packaging that I actually like

I'm very anti-digipak though.

The one initially for 'All About Eve' was horrible, heard they reissued a new package after enough complaints. I had to practically rip the disc out of the 'tray'.

So.... The Phantom Carriage is absolutely fantastic!

Add it to your wishlist if you don't already have it!

I'm definitely buying Mirror and Bringing Up Baby. Considering Fast Times at Ridgemont High and The Parallax View as well.

I've been spending way too much this year, so I'm just hoping to get Bringing Up Baby, Mirror, La piscine, Memories of Murder, and Nightmare Alley. And I already have After Life and Company on preorder for August.

Do you guys think Amazon will price-match the B&N sale? I live in Europe and B&N don’t ship to my country, but Amazon does.

I second this! Its almost like A Christmas Carol for New Year's Eve with a bit of horror and the same amount of emotional uplift.

They usually do, but add shipping to the title too if it's under B&N's free shipping threshold price of $35. So a $19.99 title at B&N would be like $22.98 or so at Amazon.

Also my favorite film, even though it's universally well-known so Criterion probably wouldn't release it unless if they wanted to make some money like they did with Silence of the Lambs, popular film but can easily make a lot of money because many people know about it in the first place.
There's surely no way Criterion release any more Polanski films.

I'd never heard of it until just a few years ago when my brother and I were getting into silent films, and I absolutely loved it. One of my favorite silents.

Not since last year. You can always try I guess, though. Maybe you'll get a manager that does you a favor.

July 2020 just like all prior sales back to 2009 - yes even though some of hte advance details suggested it wouldn't be allowed

Nov 2020 - no though a few managers bucked the trend and manually allowed it in their store.

I haven't seen any fine print for this sale yet. I'm assuming it won't, but hoping they changed their minds. Virtually any item 30% or more off on sale over the last 6+ months hasn't allowed the member discount to apply, so I'm not optimistic.

Would I have any luck getting Best Buy to price match BN.com during the sale, or would they consider it a special promotion and not match? Been really annoyed with BN lately (from recent book shopping) and would rather patronize someone else.
