Made a Criterion order with UV a while ago and forgot to post it here to share along with everyone's B&N hauls.
Went with filling in some of the films I've watched before and wanted to pick up. Was hard to narrow down, but these are the ones I've wanted to rewatch the most and have been sitting on the longest through previous sales due to the bulk being backordered (which they still are):

Along with some blind buys which I don't normally do with Criterions. The cover for Moonrise caught my eye and reading the blurb got me interested. Inland Sea I can find practically nothing about which got me curious and The lodger is my first dive into the silent film selection of Criterion:

Probably not going to pick up anymore, but if anyone has any film recommendations based on what I've picked up here or already own I'll keep it in mind for the next sale. I could technically buy more on August 1st since it'll be that months hobby budget, but I'm currently thinking of using that to pick up some non-boutique film releases for things I've enjoyed or something else entirely. Don't really think there are any August sales to look out for but I could be wrong.

The Lodger disc includes another Hitchcock silent film, Downhill, which is a pretty solid early entry in his body of work. Be sure to check it out.

If you want to dive in a little more into (almost) silents, I will always recommend the great, innovative film Lonesome. I don’t feel like it gets a hundredth of the love it deserves, but I think it’s a must for anyone who loves classic film.

You've perked my interest, I don't even remember seeing that while scrolling through UV Criterion section! Shockingly it's still in stock too which can't be stand for a large bulk of Criterion titles on UV. Kind of makes me wish UV had the same add to order system as VS.

A film directed by Chaplin is a Chaplin film in my book. A Countess from Hong Kong is also a Chaplin film.

A.I. has a 20th anniversary this year. Could that be the mystery rumored alleged first 4K UHD?

Spielberg? I don't think so. If I remember right, none of his big-budget major studio movies has ever been sublicensed to a boutique label.

I think Downhill is better than The Lodger.

I Wanna Hold Your Hand was produced by Spielberg and he even personally contributed to the Criterion bonus features, so Spielberg and Criterion have taken a step toward establishing a relationship with each other. It's plausible that he would let them license one or more of his films. I'd personally love a set of his pre-Jaws work, including his short films, TV movies and series episodes.

Not in a long time. But Criterion did have a fairly impressive and innovative special edition of Close Encounters on laserdisc.

Count me in for an early Spielberg box with the aforementioned early TV work, plus Duel and The Sugarland Express.

I believe yoloswegmaster's scoop is accurate. At the same time, I don't think WB will relinquish total UHD rights to Criterion. This is what I think might happen:

WB issues Kane on UHD in a package which is essentially the excellent 70th anniversary blu-ray + the new UHD. Cost: about $25. If all you want is Kane and don't need the "C" on the front, it's a good option.

Criterion receives permission to issue Kane on UHD as part of a Welles box set. The set would include F for Fake (New 4K transfer), Arkadin (New blu-ray), and existing blu-rays (Chimes, Othello, Immortal Story). Kane, Ambersons, and The Other Side of the Wind would be on UHD.

Criterion would then release films from this set individually similar to how the Bergman films trickled out each month.
I doubt a Welles box is possible since it would require Warner, MGM, Sony, Paramount, and Universal to all contribute - not to mention that Kino Lorber is handling the 4K HDR remasters of Touch of Evil themselves for UHD.

I've felt that we're most likely getting a box set of Welles' unfinished work that includes The Other Side of the Wind, Hopper/Welles, It's All True, etc. plus Citizen Kane, The Trial, and a Blu upgrade of Mr. Arkadin. As much as I absolutely love F for Fake, I can't imagine them justifying a reissue with the new restoration. Though, maybe they can reissue it with the original Reichenbach doc and restored trailer finally.

I don't see Olive Films giving up license rights to The Stranger or Macbeth, there's not really any point in retreading the already excellent Ambersons, Othello, Chimes, and Immortal Story. Only instance of them doing so was allowing Shout! Factory to include The Miracle Worker in their Anne Bancroft set. Yet they didn't allow Face to Face for the Bergman box, nor three Paramount films for Shout's last MST3K box.

Agree with those suggestions; here are a couple other all-time great silents in the Collection:

Always love encouraging new fans to check out classic silent films.

I sort of liked it but it did make me wonder how much better it could have been for me if Kubrick had directed it.

I'm a big reader of SF, and Brian Aldiss is a favorite author of mine. This was one of the few times where I felt the movie version didn't do justice to the original short story. They removed a vital part of the story that made it less poignant.

I have enjoyed a lot of movie versions of SF stories so I'm not a "the book is always better" kind of person. The Arrival, Blade Runner, A Clockwork Orange and even 2010 I enjoy a lot. Both Tarkovsky SF films I find just as good as the novels in their own special way.

2001: A Space Odyssey is my favorite film, but the novel and movie were simultaneous, so it doesn't count.

Kubrick worked on it for over a decade, and dragged his feet because he wanted a robot to play the lead, and not a kid playing an android.
When it became clear he had to wait another ten or more years to get that one right, he 'gave' (any more backstory on this part, anyone??!) the rights to Don SS, who turned it into another Pinocchio movie.

Pretty sad, because the film has a good start with that exciting speech by the professor, played by William Hurt.

But alas, there is always room for more Pinocchio, I guess...

Could you tell more about that vital part, please?

I haven't read this story by Aldiss, unfortunately.

The original story of Stanislav Lem which is the foundation of Solaris is, IMHO, quite shallow, the Tarkovsky film by far out shadows it.

But then again: it's Tarkovsky!!
