Nothing for me.

I have the Olive "Cooley High". It's just OK, anyway.

I like some Haneke films, but am not crazy about these. And that box looks terrible.

Not interested in any of the rest.

Well, I almost never buy any Criterion's in December.

Hopefully, Imprint, Shout, or someone will have something for me at the end of the year.

I'm still oh-so-disappointed that Criterion couldn't find at least ONE Pasolini thing to release for his Centennial year. A sure sign that Criterion ain't where it used to be.

Nah minimalist is fine but that is ugly. Although i suppose they were going for a home made look with the concept.

Anyway Three Films by Mai Zetterling for me.

I'm excited for Cooley High (my dad's favorite movie) and the Mai Zetterling set.

Well, that concludes another year.

It's always interesting to look back upon the films released within a given year.

Really excited for The Velvet Underground!

Never seen Cooley High, but seems like something I’d enjoy!

Like Haneke, will get the set to continue my collection! Bring on Cache, soon, please!

Never seen nor heard of Mai Zetterling, but excited to check the movies out!

November may be “stacked”, but I’ve never seen two box sets and two other titles in a December in recent memory.

People like Kurosawa liked to shift between 35-50mm lenses and Francis Coppola favors 40mm. There's a whole list of directors and their lens choices if you scroll to the bottom of the link below.
Sadly, director David Lean is missing from the article and list. Given that his many wide shots in Lawrence of Arabia and A Passage to India, I wonder if he was like Kubrick, favoring 10-15mm.

The Mai Zetterling set sounds interesting, although perhaps not quite enough to warrant a blind buy. Nothing else this month, which is absolutely fine given my ever-growing unwatched pile.

Is there a list somewhere about what people here think CC should release?

Just interested to see if what I want is the same as others or not. For example, I would LOVE a directors cut 4K release of Yimou Zhang’s hero, and a few Bollywood ones like Bombay and Sholay.

How old are those Haneke scans? The same ones used for the 2006 Kino DVD set? Ughhhhh.

I just watched the Velvet Underground documentary on Apple TV+ last week!

Damn, that was a frickin' incredible film by Todd Haynes.

It's one of those documentaries I could easily re-watch numerous times or have a watch party or movie night.

Aside from that film, there's nothing else in the December announcements I'd consider purchasing.

(Aside from WALL-E that is... which was announced the previous week but I guess not part of the December slate, because its technically coming out in November)

Love Affair and Written on the Wind were announced November of 2021. The Flight of the Phoenix, Double Indemnity, and Shaft aren't new to BD (although at least Flight of the Phoenix in new to BD US).

Shaft and Buck and the Preacher are both from the early 70's, they're not classic era Hollywood movies anymore than the Godfather is.

I think it is a matter of opinion. 50-year-old films from Hollywood studios seem classic to me.

At this point Criterion has over 1100 movies on bluray (close to 800 individual sets) and in the last year they have only upgraded 8 previously released blurays to 4k. You'll be waiting a long, long time to see if they ever get to all your favorites.

As others have said, if you must just stay away from popular releases over a couple years old that have 4k scans.
