Do you think Arsenic & Old Lace will be released on a 4K disc? I don't want to buy it now only to have it come out in 4K.

I'd say that has the same chance as The Lakers winning the finals this year.

I bought Arsenic so that pretty much guarantees it’s going to get a 4K release.

E2A:

Seriously though, I thought about holding off because of what happened with War of the Worlds. But I went ahead and bought Arsenic because the case artwork is so awesome even if somehow there was a 4K release down the road I’d probably keep the Criterion too.

Anyways, are there any Canadians on here who can tell me what's the best place to buy Criterions from during this sale? I was going to go with Unobstructed View but the sale on there is now 35% off, which isn't really appealing.
I usually wait for the Criterion Flash sales and buy enough to last me the next 6 months, which also accumulates points that translate into $50 gift cards.

Amazon.com comes out to $35 CDN per title including taxes, shipping, and duty for 5 of the $19.99 titles.

There's no way of knowing when those other discs you purchased were pressed, so it's irrelevant to even mention them. Even if they were recently pressed, it's still irrelevant because not every single disc being released today is scratched.

The issue of scratches affects many different labels. It's not limited to Criterion and has nothing to do with Criterion's QC going downhill or whatever else people keep claiming. All of the labels have their discs pressed at the same plant and that is where the issues are originating. Seeing one label's releases having more scratched discs than another is sheer coincidence.

One thing that's interesting is that in the last couple of years I have had a decent amount of Criterion discs with scratches starting with The Great Escape. However, not a single one of them has had any playability issues. Same thing with Shout Factory, Kino, etc. Maybe I've been lucky, but as long as the disc plays then I'm not sure what the issue is.

Actually you can't really assume that at all. Something purchased a few months ago could very easily have been pressed years ago.
I'm relatively sure there are some 10-15 yr old items out there still selling there initial batch

At Barnes & Noble, at least when I worked there (2014–2017) and I would assume it's still the same, the date in which a media item was received into the store was stated directly on the item's tag. And unless it's specifically asked to be returned, it could easily just sit there for years.

I'm not sure -- I've seen the dates on the price Stickers, but it's always been the release date. Even new restocks of older titles seem to have the original release date

I did have playback issues with the 8 1/2 disc in the Fellini set (the film played fine, but the disc took a suspiciously long time to load), but Criterion were nice enough to replace it for me, but at any rate, the scratch issue at the Mexican plant has been an issue since at least late 2019 I think.

Oh crap. You mean I have to actually watch the movies to check if they work?!?

I would really like to do a B&N order this month but every time I get to the checkout page my payment details won't load. I've been trying for one hour and all I get is a never ending rotating circle from the b****s of hell. If they don't want my order fine by me. I'll go somewhere else. I have no nearby B&N so online ordering is my only option with them.

It happened to me as well. I was using Firefox. Just switch browsers. It's not a problem with the site.

Default The Kingdom (Riget)

With The Kingdom (Riget) finally coming out with it's last season and Criterion releasing LVT films, I wonder if there is any chance of Criterion releasing the series. Anyone know who owns the home video release in the US?

Has anyone ever had an experience with the Criterion discs not playing sound properly on the menus and the supplements yet the main feature is totally fine?

I've noticed on my Sony 4k player there is no sound at the menus and on the supplements at all. I don't know why its doing it. I noticed it on Notorious and Carnival of Souls most recently. I tried two different Sony players and both had this issue. I have no idea what is causing it.

For some reason Chrome especially, BN.com and some fo the Popup Blockers/UBlock don't always play well.

Usually if the sites giving me issues at checkout, turning off UBlock Origin and reloading seems to work, I'm not sure if other AdBlock, etc tend to do the same thing. I've had the same issue with other sites in the past as well -- not just BN.com

Agreed, though Shout! Factory currently has the rights to it AFAIK. Question is if/when they’ll actually put out a Blu-Ray release for it.

Just Eve's Bayou for me this B&N sale. I've never watched the film but am aware of it; For some reason I assumed it was a horror film. Thought the same thing about Cure but I'm not sure about a blind buy for that one. Are there sci-fi/thriller elements to it?

Eye's Bayou is not a horror film, but more a drama film with some premonitions visions. Cure is horror, but not a typical horror, as it's more psychological with a slow build up of dread. It's very good.
