THANK GOD After Hours has finally been released. I'm so tired of hearing about it like it's some kind of Blu-ray holy grail. It's an entertaining flick and all, and I will certainly buy it, but there are so many better films yet to come to disc that warrant the kind of fervor this one has.

To all of you that finally get to check this off your wishlist though... I am happy for you!

Extras comparison for the newly announced UHDs. Also worth mentioning StudioCanal has a different extras selection for Breathless.

Criterion produced new interviews with Lansbury, Errol Morris and Susan Carruthers (while dropping some of the MGM extras), while Arrow included an hourlong The Directors documentary.

One False Move includes a new conversation with Franklin and Thornton and the DVD commentary, but is missing the Imprint extras: Shaka King/Brandon Harris commentary, interviews with Cynthia Williams and Carole Kravetz Aykanian and Chris O'Neil video essay.

The Indicator Boetticher boxset includes some exclusives, including isolated scores, The Guardian Interview with Elmore Leonard (The Tall T), Edward Buscombe interview (Decision at Sundown), Kim Newman and Christopher Frayling interviews (Buchanan Rides Alone), The Guardian Interview with Boetticher/David Meeker and Trailers from Hell (Ride Lonesome). The German Blu-ray of Comanche Station includes a 33 minute interview with Boetticher.

However, Criterion retains many archival extras (commentaries, introductions, Kitses conversation, Super 8 version and a Farran Smith Nehme introduction.

Although I'm happy "Breathless" is being released on 4K, I just bought it on blu. It's still in the shrinkwrap. Damn.

Awesome month! July is usually good lately. I was not expecting the announcements today. People will probably still complain about the titles. Last July Scorsese's Raging Bull and Franklin's Devil in Blue Dress were released.

I am most excited for The Watermelon Woman! Also really pumped for After Hours & Ome False Move! Happy I never imported the Breathless 4K from overseas. The Boetticher westerns seem like a pretty cool set! Will pick it up!

Maybe Paramount can license out 7 Men From Now at some point on blu-ray.

I just finished watching the last movie in the set. That Indicator set is really amazing. Now I need to see if the 4K is going to be worth the upgrade, as the blus look really good.

According to the database Fukkoku released a Japanese Blu-ray half a decade ago, but barebones but I don’t know what source it comes from (the Japanese RKO Blu-rays are inferior to what Criterion/WB have released in the US.) Though Batjac shifted their distribution from WB over to Paramount for the DVDs, I don’t know if Paramount still has distribution rights to that catalogue.

So many of the films I watched on DVD last decade are getting reissued! Wonder if the Strand Blu-ray of The Doom Generation will include the Severin produced extras from the Second Sight DVD?

Cool to see the short films from First Run’s separate DVD release included. Makes me wonder if any other First Run titles will be released by Criterion - Criterion’s first association with the film would have been on FilmStruck/Criterion Channel. Also interesting as the restoration was previously only released on DVD - wonder if that’s the case with any other films.

After Hours, One False Move, and Ranown Westerns Collection are all “must purchase” for me. Indicator’s Budd Boetticher Blu-ray set is still one of my favorite blind buys. Can’t believe that was already five years ago!
