I've been gone for a while but here's my latest.
Charade (Criterion) Director: Stanley Donen Writers: Peter Stone, Peter Stone Mains: Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn and Walter Matthau "Whats your real name?" Plot (IMDb): Romance and suspense in Paris, as a woman is pursued by several men who want a fortune her murdered husband had stolen. Who can she trust? My Take: This review might be a little short because i saw the movie about 4 days ago and just got around to writing a review. From what i can remember this was a pretty good film. No Hitchcock but its still a good little twisty thriller. What i enjoyed the most was the acting. Really really good, and everyone knows a good story mixed with good acting makes a great experience. Charade is a movie that can be watched multiple times so its replay value isn't bad at all. Not sure why this is Criterion flick??? Cary Grant??? But overall this is a good flick and worth the viewing. Its was a fun ride and i cant wait to ride it again but in the front seat. There are many mystery movies that are either telegraphed or just not interesting, this film doesnt fall into either category. If you like this genre you will like this flick. Conclusion: Charade is a fun flick to watch with a companion. Its bent around mystery and love. Somewhat of a dramedy but with a very good story. Cary Grant is a very charming (no homo) and strong actor, he plays he role to the tee. So fans of him or mystery movies will enjoy this fun little ride. Recommended! RECOMMENDED 4/5 |

Because Charade is in the Public Domain and if Criterion didn't restore it from Universal materials, it's unlikely anyone would have, and for proof, you can see how Universal has violently asserted its rights and swept Criterion's DVDs out-of-print, MGM-style, in order to produce their own definitive DVD and BD of Charade, only, that never happened.

I thoroughly enjoyed Inception. I'm sure I will enjoy it just as much in a year. If not for the story, just because how much I love Joseph Gordon-Levitt. And to be honest, I did not like The Dark Knight at all, and I will not see the sequal. Liking Inception had nothing to do with Nolan directing it, to be honest, I didn't even pay attention to who directed it. I totally understand where you're coming from with the hype aspect of popular movies, but come on CG, you can't REALLY believe all of what you type out.

So the film is depressing. Interesting. As long as it is worth watching, and my wife doesn't want to leave the room, then it could be worth some discussion afterwords. |

And saying "Halloween 2" is your favorite film of last year really comes off as you trying to image yourself as an uber-cool hip punk contrarian. "Halloween 2" is on par with "Troll 2." Except "Troll 2" had better dialogue. Sure, Zombie threw everything he could into the film, but none of it worked. Who knows... maybe it would of been way better if Scout Taylor-Compton would have dropped the F bomb another 50 or 60 times. I'll take a well-crafted "thinking" film any day instead of a boring film constructed to be totally radical - but instead is just an exercise of immature filmmaking and a bad case of over-indulgence. |
