Does anyone know if the current newer $40 membership at B&N works on their Criterion sales?

Yes, but it needs to be redone from scratch. The current Blu looks like a DVD honestly. While that Blu-ray had an older 4K restoration, a new 4K restoration with newer scanners and tools would give a way better result.

Most obvious are probably On the Waterfront (also the 70th anniversary), All The King's Men (75th), It Happened One Night (90th), Easy Rider (55th), and maybe even Taxi Driver and The Age of Innocence. Perhaps we'll get all the Best Picture winners on 4K between all the boutiques and Sony themselves.
While CC4 was still a great set, I would give that whole set for someone to do a 4K release of On The Waterfront. If I'm not mistaken, the Criterion Blu is a 4K scan, restoration, and master from the OCN, so there's no reason why it can't be on 4K. Criterion would likely do a massive set (to include all three ratios plus the two old Blus), and I'd be in for it.

Thanks for the heads-up, I also snagged a copy online as there isn't one in-stores within a 100 mile radius.

Well it happened, got my first scratched disc from Criterion. Mean Streets just came in and it looks like it was scraped with something, and it has greasy fingerprint marks. I could understand some tiny marks, but this is bad.

No problem. I had a copy in my cart but could never check out because it always had the red "out of stock" message. I just kept checking until the message was gone. There was one location near me that supposedly had it, but I didn't want to drive all the way out there, only to find out they didn't have it. I placed a hold request online for it and selected the option to pay at the store. I'm glad that I did, because within an hour I had a message stating that they couldn't find it.

UPDATE: I have a "Shipped" message. So they fulfilled my request with something. Hopefully they sent me the blu ray and not the DVD.

Works? 10% member discount -- no. I did read one person who says he got the extra 10% -- there always seems to be at least one.

For Stamps acquisition, yes -- including the Bonus points when they have extra points from buying.

A question re: aspect ratios on the Rohmer Tales of the Four Seasons set.

This is what Artificial Eye gave us on their DVD set from 2009 according to this site. Any idea what Criterion will give us?

A Tale of Springtime (1990) Original aspect ratio: 1.66:1
A Winter's Tale (1992) Aspect ratio: 1.66:1 Original aspect ratio: 1.66:1
A Summer's Tale (1996) Original aspect ratio: 1.33:1
An Autumn Tale (1998) Aspect ratio: 1.33:1 Original aspect ratio: 1.66:1

Thank you. A perfect response. Interesting to note the 2 earlier films are in 1.66:1 and the 2 later films are in 1.37:1. Perhaps they originally aired on French TV? I saw them when they had their theatrical release in the UK.

Also interesting to see 4 Seasons comes on 4 discs while 6 Moral Tales came on 3.

Send that shit back! You paid for a new perfect disc, not that.

I'm planning on hitting B&N by the end of this week, and I'm opening my shit right there. It's tough if they don't like it. Considering the hoops and hurdles I'm still going through on After Hours, one effed up Criterion disc is enough.

Speaking of extras, there is also a documentary titled Public Enemies: The Golden Age of the Gangster Film on a separate disk in the WAC Ultimate Gangsters Collection boxset which includes The Public Enemy, Little Caesar, The Petrified Forest, and White Heat.

Moonage Daydream. Does the Universal release contain the Brett Morgen commentary track that's on the Criterion release?

NONE of the other BD releases of this film have any extras at all albeit the previous US Decal release from last year has a trailer.

The UK will get a 4k Universal release with the following extras listed on Amazon but no mention of a commentary track but that could easily be a mistake/omission. Presumably these extras will be on the UK BD release too.

1. Considering True Lies and The Abyss are the closest they’ve ever been to coming, Pat Garrett may become the official “what the hell is the holdup” movie if the two Cameron films finally drop. While there’s definitely surviving elements of the three released cuts (theatrical cut, preview cut, DVD cut), I wonder if any of those cuts actually survive on film, an analog source, a “digital master” from the 80s, or a DI. The 80s digital master would apply to the first two cuts, with the DI applying to the 2005 DVD cut.

Also, there was a rough cut that ran either 160 or 165 minutes, but it’s unknown if that exists at all.

2. Per other Blu-ray.com users, Captain Blood has a great 4K transfer, and while it’s more of a “preservation elements” situation (ie, no OCN), it still looks great, and if there’s multiple elements used it’s not noticeable. So now it comes down to who will drop it between WAC and Criterion.

I thought the same thing about West Side Story. I mentioned to my mother’s friend (who likes musicals even more than me) that I thought all the dancing before, during, and after fights was ridiculous, and he told me that on top of this being a musical (so logic doesn’t apply), it was supposed to be a nonviolent stand-in for actual fights and violence.

Having watched gangs fight for control of several of my schools (with no real success, it just annoyed the normal people), I can’t imagine the Bloods and the Crips twirling around before they start killing each other, but maybe that’s just me.

I would love to have a chance to boo Zaslav at a commencement, if for nothing else than the firing of Millie De Chirico. But hey, he got his nine-figure bonus and that's what counts.

Warner Bros CEO David Zaslav Booed at BU Commencement - YouTube
The only reason I don’t absolutely hate Zaslav is because he brought Feltenstein and WAC back. Other than that he completely flushed it down the toilet.

I’m still shocked that when The Flash bombed ass that he didn’t lose his job. Outside of Disney (which I think they print money in their basement or something), when a studio puts out a bomb like that, heads roll. How Zaslav avoided that happening to him is beyond me.
