Dazed and Confused... the obvious choice.
Citizen Kane is great to watch stoned, in my opinion. The angles, the dissolves, the deep focus, etc.
Two concert docs: The Complete Monterey Pop and The Last Waltz (if you're into the music of those eras)
The Night of the Hunter
Persona
The Tree of Life (if you don't mind being stoned and also moved)
All of David Lynch. Every last one.
I recently started taking gummies for some chronic shoulder pain I’ve been having.

It has absolutely effected my viewing taste in movies.

All of a sudden films like JFK, Revange and Yi Yi seem like serious downers.

I think Cats are really great. Any recommendations from Criterion Channel’s Cat Month?

Criterion released Koreeda's After Life on BD, but Janus now has rights to the film.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope the gummies help. But I hear you about the serious downers. Maybe avoid The Tree of Life in that case. And any Bergman. Classic screwball comedies might be the thing. The Awful Truth, The Lady Eve, and so on. They always cheer me up.

Just watched Freaks. It's a brilliant film. Made me feel uncomfortable too but I guess that was very much intended.

I notice a touch of optimism in most Bergman films and that makes them more palatable at times. Out and out totally nasty movies like FUNNY GAMES and UNHINGED are not for me, especially when they add pretentiousness to them, which only makes it worse. On the other hand, I thought SALO was brilliant, if heavy handed, but I am in no hurry to watch it again. For a cheering up Criterion movie, it's hard to beat THE BLACK STALLION, which is stunning.

Orson Welles famously said the movie "could make a stoned cry".

The Ultimate Feel-Good Film: THE MUTATIONS (1973-UK). Also known as "The Freakmaker".

Something else to make one feel good about the 'human condition': GAS (1981-Canadian comedy).

Seems like Amazon has good prices for some Criterion titles right now; is that to match an existing sale going on elsewhere? Wondering if I should wait for a 1/2 off sale next month....

Amazon doesn’t always increase the price after matching the Barnes & Noble sale. So that’s probably that. But heck pick some up if you want. Maybe save the digipak’s for the sale from Criterion’s site.
